drinking from a fosset, or swallowing (water) with your chin on your breast are the only things that work for me... although sometimes they just refuse to work, the longest I've had the hickups was about two hours, nearly drove me crazy...

One time I had hiccups was when i was with two mates doin some graff in a very illegal but quiet hotspot..... Needless to say it was a fuckin nightmare trying to be as quiet as possible when railtrack workers were walkin within yards of us lol 
Nothing i do gets rid of hiccups, they suck balls

try to concentrate on the hiccup. Anticipate it coming. See if you can tap your finger immediately prior to the hiccup. This works for me. I'll wait for a minute or so trying to feel the next one coming, and it usually goes away.

I just hold my breath for ages, which kinda stops my diaphragm from contracting, then once its stopped for a bit, I breathe out slowly so that I dont give it a sudden movement again, which will probably start it up. I bet this is one of the BS methods you have heard, but it truly works for me. I usually hold my breath for about 40 seconds.

Whenever I get hiccups (usually once a month without fail) I get them for an entire day and nothing I do helps. Sometimes I can get them to stop by "expecting" them to come, but they always come back later.

you have to look at why you got hiccups. , for me, i get hiccups all the time if i eat a lot of bread without anything to drink, or eat it too fast without chewwing all the way.... so i just make sure to drink lots of diet pepsi... it happens because of food staying in my throat, but not pushed down all the way, for me anyway.

I get hiccups from my Valiums.
I use a bit of bitters with salt. Creates gag reflex and does a number on my diaphragm.
Nasty yes but it works for me.
Or if I am not at home, I take a deep breath then start to swallow till I cant anymore...then I get that last gulp down no matter how hard it is. That usually works too.

breathe in slowly until you have absolutely no more room in your lungs..
hold it for 15-20 seconds or so, then slowly let the breath out until you cannot let any more out at all... do not breathe in again for another 15 seconds or so.
repeat 3x
always works  (it gave one girl i showed it to a headache though..)

breathe deeply and naturally for several breaths.. hold breath for as long as you can.. be one with the hiccup.. has always worked for me

Sit down. Exhale completely. Stand up as fast as you can while inhaling *as deeply as possible*. Don't breathe out until you have to. If you feel dizzy, that means it's working.  Swallow for good measure.
Always works for me, but everyone has his or her own ridiculous remedy. Seems to be a pretty personal thing.

hiccups are a spasm of the diaphragm. just like when you get a spasm in a muscle you have to figure out the way to stop it for YOU, there is no one way to stop hiccups. all these methods above work for certain people but may not do jack shit for you. so ill throw in a couple other way to stop them. stick out your tongue, or put your fingers in your ears, or touch the back of the throat with your finger. if you want me to explain why these ways could work i will, im just lazy and i dont feel like thinking right now.

You could carry around a syringe full of muscle relaxant and just inject that into your diaphragm when you had a bad attack. That might make breathing difficult later on, tho. I'm not a med student.

ok THIS REALLY WORKS.
i have hiccup problems and for years i couldn't figure out how to get rid of them, but finally someone taught me something that works EVERY TIME!
First, take a deep slow breath in and breath it all out until you feel like you are totally rid of air, then slowly suck up all the air you can until it feels like your lungs will explode and hold it as long as possible.
