One of my favorite songs on "Hail to the Thief" is "Where I End and You Begin." A lot of times, especially in their new music, Radiohead's lyrics are abstract and it is not always clear what the meaning is behind them. That's actually one of the things I like most about them. But recently while listening to "Where I End and You Begin" I realized that this song is probably about being high! And more specifically, probably on psychadelics.
The general inconsistency of the lyrics coupled with the lines "I am up in the clouds, and I can't come down" and the feeling of not being able to understand where you "begin" and "end" is part of what led me to believe this. The music is also fantastic and crazy. Not to mention the fact that all of Radiohead's new stuff is so "out there" that I can hardly imagine they created it without the influence of drugs (and probably psychadelics).
Check out the lyrics...
There's a gap in between There's a gap where we meet Where I end and you begin
I'm sorry for us The Dinosaurs roam the earth The sky turns green Where I end and you begin
I am up in the clouds I am up in the clouds And I can't and I can't come down I can watch and not take part Where I end and where you start Where you, you left me alone You left me alone
X'll mark the place Like the parting of the waves Like a house falling into the sea Into the sea I will eat you alive I will eat you alive I will eat you alive I will eat you alive There?ll be no more lies There?ll be no more lies There?ll be no more lies There?ll be no more lies I will eat you alive I will eat you alive I will eat you alive I will eat you alive There?ll be no more lies There?ll be no more lies There?ll be no more lies There?ll be no more lies I will eat you alive I will eat you alive I will eat you alive I will eat you alive There'll no more lies There'll no more lies There'll no more lies There'll no more lies I will eat you alive I will eat you alive I will eat you alive

actually i've read a lot about them and found that apparently none of them use psychedlics. possibly the guitarist, but im not sure. ive been to a few radiohead boards where we've discussed this as well and this has been the general concensus. but anyway, yeah radiohead is great. and this is a good song.

There's no word yet on the next album... and they won't be touring again (anywhere) until after the next album, sorry to say. I missed them in Coachella too.

"Hail To The Thief" is a great album! I've been looking through the lyrics trying to find a political message...with the name of the album being what it is

Yeah, Radiohead fans should pick up the documentary "Meeting People is Easy." It's great And Trendal, their messages are often quite obscure, but they are there. I think the political messages are most apparent in "2+2=5" and "sit down, stand up." Seriously, one of the things I love most about them is the abstractness of their lyrics... I like trying to read the meaning behind some of their songs and when I figure it out (or think I figured it out) it's like.. click.. wow! That's brilliant! Some of their songs are a lot more obvious like "Fake Plastic Trees" and "Creep," but it's all good!
