Missing Weapons
    #3279330 - 10/26/04 12:18 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

Washington - In a massive pre-election embarrassment for the Bush administration, 380 tons of lethal explosives - which could be used to trigger nuclear weapons - have vanished from a military facility in Iraq which was supposed to have been guarded by American troops.

Hardly had the disappearance come to light, than John Kerry, the Democratic presidential challenger, seized on the episode as proof that George Bush was incapable of keeping America safe.

The material could already be in terrorist hands, he warned on Monday.

This was "one of the great blunders of the war" Kerry said on the campaign trail in the swing state of New Hampshire....

(STORY CONTINUES IN LINK)

The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you, they're freeing your soul. So, if you're frightened of dying and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away, but if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth...

Yay for end-of-the-horse-race fireworks!

I'm really suprised the bush camp hasn't come out with some fun news like finding a WMD or Osama or something yet.

They play the game much better than the Dems, it'll be a huge upset imho if Kerry ends up taking this one~

Whats worse is that these weapons went missing a year ago, and the white house has been sitting on this info since then.

I don't discuss politics too much either..the blantantly obvious theatrics discust me..

I did see a little article about it in the paper here, it wasn't front page or anything though.. The government seems to enjoy spilling convenient information to the media in a timely fasion in order to keep the publics attention into thinking what they do actually has some degree of logical merit to it..

Which is why this is a big deal, apparently the White House knew of this stockpile of weapons and failed ot send someone to guard it while we took over Iraq, we did send folks to guard the oil wells though. Either way, Bush knew it was there, Bush knew it was stolen, and he sat on the reports for an entire year, and we only find out now. It must have been a leak, but maybe it was his alleged October suprise.... eitherway it seems to have backfired on Bush. Rightly so, this is the same guy who sent a letter to the government of Pakistan asking for the capture of Osama Bin Laden not before or After the months of September or October.

not quite, Bush probably had NO idea what
was going on at any one of the 500,000 sites
in Iraq that the CIA had evaluated and rated.

what we do know is that this shit is old, it
was supposed to be aired 2 days before
election to discredit the president and they had
to run with it now because it's so full of holes
it would have fallen apart before then.

there's a million other LEGITIMATE reasons to
bash Bush, use one of those instead of picking
up the bullshit that's being spoonfed to you
by the media.

not quite, Bush probably had NO idea what
was going on at any one of the 500,000 sites

** Except this wanst rated by the CIA, it was rated by Hans Blix and the UN weapons inspectors, ya know the guys who were trying to find WMD? Either way we had men guarding the oil ministires the day we invaded and yet it took over a month of looting for these explosives to be taken from where they were, we knew they were there and we knew they nwere unghuarded, well the white house did. Stil they did nothing.. now call me crazy, but if im out to make the world safer form terrorism and i invade a soverign nation to achieve that goal or at least make it look like i am i would at least be going after all the weapons facilities and guarding them ASAP, and form the beggining. Did we? the answer is a definate no. We didnt. We guarded what? come on guess now... oil...thats right BINGO!

** Yes that makes perfect sense, lets give the story WAAAAY more time to develope, where the "holes" can be probed by everyone and be discredited, instead of relying on its shock value 2 days before the election which at such a time noone would have time to hear about it being discredited anyway. EHHHH wrong. This thing is holding up and is simply proving along with everything else that Iraq had nothing to do with the War on terror... so much so that the president and his lackeys allowed 380 METRIC TONS (more than regular american tons) to go into the hands of actual terrorists. This was was about money plain and simple.

there's a million other LEGITIMATE reasons to

by the media.

*** I think youve already been proven wrong... Bush is going to take a SERIOUS beating for this in the polls over the next week, mark my words. People are fed up with his bullshit. This will just be a cherry on the top of his cake of destruction this man is going home unemployed on NOVEMBER 2. By the way the "evil media" has been more favorable to Bush than to any Democrats in the passed 4 years, they are afraid to go against him because they will be seen as liberal traitors... If anyhting the media is letting this story out early to help Bush because they know if it was released 2 days BEFORE the election it would be 10 timesmore effective.

By the way, Bush "not knowing" is no excuse for him not to take the heat for what his administration does oor doesnt do... he STARTED this war and has gotten 1100 of our men and women killed, but he didnt know? give me a goddamned break.

Not quite, before the US goes to war, the CIA generally analyzes intelligence.
This is not a function shopped out to the UN.

Now if you would have READ THE ARTICLE, you would have seen this simple
quote:

One senior official noted that the Qaqaa complex where the explosives were stored was listed as a "medium priority" site on the Central Intelligence Agency's list of more than 500 sites that needed to be searched and secured during the invasion

Quote:

Either way we had men guarding the oil ministires the day we invaded and yet it took over a month of looting for these explosives to be taken from where they were, we knew they were there and we knew they nwere unghuarded, well the white house did. Stil they did nothing..

Now I can't comment on whether oil rigs and pipelines were ranked
higher or lower on that list or how they had allocated security resources
but it's not like these guys disregarded these things entirely.

in fact, later on in the article it quotes an american military official
as saying:

during the initial race to Baghdad, American forces "went through the bunkers, but saw no materials bearing the I.A.E.A. seal." It is unclear whether troops ever returned.

Quote:

now call me crazy, but if im out to make the world safer form terrorism and i invade a soverign nation to achieve that goal or at least make it look like i am i would at least be going after all the weapons facilities and guarding them ASAP, and form the beggining. and they should have guarded the museums and they should have guarded
the electricity plants and they should have guarded the water system and
they should have guarded the kurds and they should have guarded the
entire boarder so terrorists could not enter....

you can only do so much with what you've got. It sounds like it was
accounted for, checked and was not considered of high importance
because it was lacking evidence of nuclear intent.

Quote:

Regardless of differing opinions on timing. It's clear that this story is being
reported by the liberal NYT in an effort to hurt the credibility of the president
and his staff. I don't believe the story will gain enough momentum or enough
credible evidence will surface to definitively say whether we were negligent.

PS. Correction: Metric tons are MORE than American tons.

well, I hope you're right. But we'll see if anyone other than the blatantly
left-leaning New York Times carries the story as a headline.

mark my words...it dies a slow quiet death just like the Plame leak, the Energy Commision meeting minutes, Bush's anti-trust suit and so on and
so forth...

I believe that we got to that stockpile a DAY after we took baghdad and everything was already gone.
The UN was supposed to be watching over it.. we only took over once we took baghdad.
You know, the UN, those guys the Iraqis were bribing..
