SO I posted all these 'it keeps turning off' posts, and all these people made fun of me...wish they would reminded me to cover the light sensor on the light.
Everythings up n running...when should I start vegging? bsocc

Keep the HPS about 6-10" away from the plant. Hold your hand level with the top of the plant and see if it gets too hot.
You can veg pretty much indefinately. It all depends on the amount of space you have and how big you want the plant. Fourteen to sixteen inches sounds about right to switch to 12/12.
If possible I would move the fan to the bottom of the closet. That way it would be blowing colder air up instead of warmer air down.

Any watering tips? ive already killed one plant...uprooting and watering it..
Also, I dont want a huge plant, I want a short, dense one.

70W HPS isn't very strong. Keep that as close as you can without burning the plant. Also use some reflective material like mylar around the plant.
What kind of growth rate do you expect? I have 8 plants that are three weeks old and they're around 7" tall. A plant could be 15" tall but have a lot of streching.
Some people love 24-0. I think the plants start to look "tired" after 16,17 hours so I run 18-0.
Only think I would say with watering is, mj loves to be soaked once then let to mostly dry out. I wait till 1 full inch of soil is completely dry before I soak the plant.
This is great for diagnosing problems. http://www.overgrow.com/growfaq/1111
No matter what happens your first grow will be a great learning experience.

Like I said, I moves a plant into a small trash can, it wilted and dided. I can take pics if you want. That was crazy it was a big ol beauty too. Hope this one makes it, Im still not sure if the lights are gonna do the job Im expecting.
I want a short dense plant, is this possible? Also, I have those spiked in this plant...leve em in? Use more food??

NO.
A short dense plant is possible with an indica grown under strong light.
Is this bagseed or know genetics?

Theses plants were grown by my cat under a 400W HPS at 18/6 cycle. They are at day 22 from seed in the picture. The strain is 75% indica 25% sativa. Should give you a rough estimate of what a 400W HPS is capable of.

Well, Ive got it on 18-6 starting today. This plant, which was started outside, is 10 weeks old. Its first 6-7 weeks were spent in the chilly outside. Is that going to affect the size of the plant? Should I be topping the plant...here come pic
Ahould I keep the floro alongside?

Yeah the fluoro should be fine, whats the day and night temps?.. you do have a thermometer don't you?
Make sure you rotate the plant for even lights. I thought you said you had a 400W HPS, doh. That leaf looks nutrient deficient. I recommend spending more time on overgrow.com as this forum doesn't have a lot of weed growers.

Get rid of that fixture, http://www.overgrow.com/growfaq/1151
and post at OG rather then shroomery. Read all the overgrow FAQ's and you should be on your way to success.

the only brand i like at those "chain stores" is Peters. Peters is a great brand, i use it all the time....but whatever you, stay away from Miracle Grow. it has to be the worst company ever established...seriously, if you want to kill your plant, use a miracle grow product.

shultz is good too. Look for an even NPK value ie. 10-10-10 fert for veg and a high P or middle number for flower. I used miracle grow 15-30-15 for my first grow durring flower with great results, just be sure to flush as you would with any chem ferts.

Yes it looks nice. Flushing is watering with straight tap water about 2x the volume of the pots. Do this for the last two weeks when using chem ferts to clean out the soil of all chem buildups and make a less harsh smoke.
