Taking things for granted
    #3267641 - 10/23/04 12:05 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

I had to work a few hours this morning. About 10 a.m. I finished up and headed back to the yard. My work yard is directly West of the Luxor Hotel/Casino, just on the other side of the freeway. I normally hop on the freeway for convenience but since it was Saturday morning and I knew the traffic would be light I figured I'd just drive down the Las Vegas Strip instead.

As I was sitting there at a stoplight (with my big-ass truck and backhoe) I looked around and it suddenly struck me...."I'm on the Las Vegas Strip! People come from all over the world to be right here!" I almost felt a little sad at that moment that I don't appreciate the things I have right in my backyard a little more. But when you have spent most of your life there its hard not to take it for granted.

And I'm sure there are many of you in places right now that I would love to be. Places that I would plan a vacation to. And yet you may not see the appeal of it because to you its just 'home'. A place where you live, work, and find yourself bored when theres "nothing to do". And when time comes for vacation you could never imagine spending it there.

I think it would do all of us some good to step out of the frame of mind that we live in and look around us with an open mind. Once in a while we need to appreciate the things we take for granted every day. And always remember, someone else wants what you have!!

I don't think there is anyone in thier right mind that would want ANYTHING I have. Except maybe my gf because she is the most beautiful gf in the whole world ( Well IMHO). I also tell her everyday she is beautiful. So other than that I have nothing anyone else would want.

What a great observation. This is so true, I think we all need to stop and pay attention to what is going on around us sometimes...

This is so true, we often get so caught up in living our lives we forget to take a look at our lives. I know for me I have to take a step back and look at where I am and what I have, it adds a whole new apprecation for everything, I think more people need to do this.

This seems to fit my current motto for life: "It's not the goal thats important but the journey to get there."
