Brining old mycelium back to life with Karo Tek

Very recently, a slice of mycelium on the surface of a straw/cow poo casing was removed, and placed into a prepared Karo Tek jar. Now - the mycelium is at least 2 months old. It was made with WBS mixed in with pasturized straw/cow poo in a little tupperware container. Nothing fruited on it, no casing put on - it just sat there, fully colonized, covered with tin foil in an incubator for a couple months.

I'm interested to read some opinions as to what might happen here - will the Karo/water mixture rehydrate the mycelium and bring it back to life? - - or is the mycelium dead?

For those not familiar with the Karo Tek it is basically 1 teaspoon Karo brand Light Corn Syrup mixted with 100 cc of water and PC'ed at 15 psi for 20 min.

I'd imagine even that casing is alive and if dunked, cased and fruited, it would produce. I'd bet that culture will also produce. Your only possible problem could be contams. If they were on the outside of the straw when you threw it in. Peroxide additive would have been good, or a quick dip in straight 3% for a few seconds before throwing the piece in.

I could be wrong, but I dont think peroxide survives in a PC

You are correct. Peroxide breaks down at around 130-135 IIRC. Won't even stand to a boil. It should be added right as you add the peice of straw. Its probably to late by now if there was contams, you'd have to get the peroxide in there before the spores germinated (the contam spores that is). In similar situations I take the cap and fill it with h202 (the cap of the bottle) and then throw the peice of myc in it, it'll start bubbling if its alive. Then flip the whole cap of h202 and myc into the karo water. Seems to work fine so far, only did it twice though making clones.
