I won't even go into breaking down the problems with this video. Edit: nevermind it has George Castanza in it. There is no beating that.

Bill Mayer has this lovely thing where if anyone tries to make an intelligent response to anything he says he cuts them off with a 9th grade retort to which the audience drowns out the guestwith aplause making it impossible to get any point across. He oversimplifies and mischaracterizes his guest, but the way he sets up the show he can say anything he wants, while the guests get completely ridiculed.

Before he became a Hollywood elite he was a lot more conservative. It is sad. I wouldn't take all of the wealth money hookers and drugs if I had to be a liberal.
Ok I would.

He's as conservative (Liberaterian) as ever, he just likes FISCAL conservatives.
Bush is the opposite. Bush has added more to our national debt than ALL OTHER PRESIDENTS combined.
Sometimes, even conservatives need to look elsewhere to find polititians who are responsable with money.

If you ever watched Bill O'REilly you would realize that at least on his show guests have a fighting chance. Bill Maher just uses his racous audience to laugh at them and cut them off with applause. Bill O'Reilly is FAR more civil and fair than Maher and facilitates a much better discourse on issues. Bill Maher is just a bunch of liberals getting together to tap themselves on the back and humiliate people they don't agree with. There is little to no serious debate or intelligent discussion on that show at all. Real Time is a truly worthless TV show. Liberals like it because it tells them what they want to hear and gives them a chance to shout down conservatives, but the intellectual content of the show is on par with Ricki Lake. It is very insulting to Bill O'Reilly to compare him with Bill Maher.

I seriously don't know what show you're watching. I've never seen Bill Maher ever shout down his guests, at least not nearly to the degree that Bill O'Reilly does.

Like I said before, his stategy is to interupt his guests with a simplistic one-liner to which his audience laughs or applauds completely burying what the person was saying. Regardless of if you O'Reilly's style, people on Bill O'Reilly can get far more words in that on Bill Maher. On Real Time you get about ten seconds to make a statement and before you can even back it up, elaborate or clarify you are cut off and the audience is cheering against you or laughing at you.

It's called debate. I've seen Ann Coulter get in far more words than she should on Bill Maher's show. He may move along through different topics a little fast, but that's because the panel discussion is such a small part of his show. Now, if the audience cheers against you or laughs at you, I don't really think Maher can be held accountable for that. And I'll tell you this much: I've never seen Bill Maher tell a guest to shut up or have their mic turned off. The only complaint I have against him is that he rarely ever has any smart conservatives on there(I really wish he'd stop inviting Ann Coulter back).

Don't get so defensive about O'Reiley. I may be liberal but I am a fan of his. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post3233756 I still stand by my comment. However, I mean no offense to Mr. O'Reilley. I am also a huge fan of Bill Maher. To my knowledge, he never cuts people's mics or tells them to shut up. As for people talking over each other, well, that just happens when you have four people ARGUING on a stage at the same time. It is the format, not Maher that causes people to talk over each other.

I would agree with that to a fair extent. I just think that his overzealous audience makes it difficult for anyone to make a sophisticated argument on his show. If it was just Bill Maher himself, he could interject things, but his guests could still finish their statements. When people cheer every time he says something that does not help the guests.

Indeed. And when he has someone like Dennis Miller on his show, he'll talk over Maher just as much if not more so than vice versa.

Here's a game for you O'Reilly lovers, anytime he mentions one of these, place a counter on it. If you get 5 in a row you win.
The only balance talk show that I can stand is Alan Colmes on the radio. That's the only place where intelligent people can debate without the host converting the show into a propoganda machine.

Im not a liberal and I love Real Time. Despite what some of you conservatives think, the republicans on his show do get time to make their point. Sometimes they just take to long or dont make a point and since he is a comedian he makes fun of them. But he does it to liberals like Michael Moore also. Personally, I think Bill Maher is a very intellectual man and he moderates his show really well. Im not sure why he doesnt run for president though because I know a lot of people that would vote for him over any one else running.
