Flowhood using 'Filtrete? Ultra Allergen Filter by 3M' possible?
    #3238527 - 10/10/04 05:24 AM (19 years, 5 months ago)

hey there!

after a recent chat with eightba|| on #cultivation he got me into looking for
the above mentioned 'Filtrete? Ultra Allergen Filter by 3M' since he
told me hes using them for his flowhood.

the details of the filter:
Quote:

# MERV 11 Rating.  What is MERV?
# Meets the American Lung Association Health House Indoor Air Quality Guidelines.
# Captures:

    * 90% of large allergens - like mold spores and pet dander - from the air passing through the filter.
    * Microscopic allergens like dust, smoke and smog particles.
    * Bacteria and particles that can carry viruses.

# 25% more efficient than the Filtrete Micro Allergen Filter.
# 15% better airflow then the Filtrete Micro Allergen Filter.
# Up to 3 months of filtering performance.
# No unnecessary antimicrobial chemicals added; Filtrete filtering material will not support the growth of bacteria, mold, mildew or fungi in normal use.

as u can see, it doesnt sound too bad.
given that u could use this filter in combination with a prefilter,
or even wire up 2 of them in row (one after the other)
u should be able to get a good air quality to work with just as u
would do withur hepa flowhood.

here is a pic of the filter:

eightba|| reported of success using this filter as a flowhood filter
when doing g2g and actually it sounds really good to me.

the beneftis would be its light weight and its super slim size
being only one inch thick and its low price of about 20 bucks for
a REAL large unit, so 2 would come in cheap aswell. (prefilter use)

i AM AWARE that there is a reason why using hepas in a flowhood,
99.9% air purification, but it sure must be possible of archiving the
same quality of air pruification using different filters.

btw i also posted this thread @ mycotopia, click here.

real curious about the input guys!

so - sadly this idea was been turned down due to the lack of air purification of
the 3m filter.

would have been too sweet anyway, given the price of the unit.

We had someone else on the site that spent quite a large chunk of cash before asking our opinion and actually I believe I gave mine but he went ahead and wasted the money on a filter that won't do jackshit. If ya don't do it right then your just wasting your time and are better off (much) with a still air glovebox. I've seen flowhoods work with a 99.97% cheap ass HEPA with low contam rates, I myself would not recommend it over a glovebox. I will recommend a 99.995% or higher HEPA everytime because then you really have a flowhood that will be 100% contam free 99% of the time. Thats what it's all about in my book. GL

hey, thx for ur input hyphae.

as rodger advised and backed up by anno,
i tossed that idea because of its lack in terms of air purification.

i may look into a flowhood somewhen later,
glovebox's the option for now.
