Well, looks like its that time again: time when people post an assload of pics of their cyan finds
This thread is for posting pics of cyans and any questions you might have(that aren't already answered in the FAQs). Please do not make identification requests in this thread or complain about your inablity to find mushrooms.
Let the pictures begin!

Now that I have the first spot on the official 04' cyan's thread I'll try to make this post worthy. I love the rain, here's our first find of the year after yesterday's rain. Not bad for our first hunt ever! Edit: This patch yielded over 150 adult cyans in 1 picking. It was right near downtown Seattle. All photos were taken with a Casio Elixim. I'll have some more pics for you guys when my upload limit is renewed! I know this isn't an Amanita thread but this one was hot stuff!

I've been hunting roughly an hour each day for the past 2 weeks in Central Oregon, lots of stuff is up.. but no Cyans. I've never found Cyans before, I'm hoping to change that this season! I've been looking primarily around residential areas, just along the sidewalks and in people's yards/flower beds.
The fall rains have come, so we should be in good shape very soon!

I spent about 45 minutes today looking for new patches but came up empty handed. Think I might go check my other patches here now that Ive found people have begun to find them.
Let the hunt begin!

How much rain/delay before cyans pop up? [Re: Stymee]

Hi, all...
I don't *think* this is in the FAQ. My question is: how much rain does it take before cyans start to show, or is it an issue of temperature plus rain. Humboldt got about .8" of rain last night, temps probably 8 degrees C (low) and 15 to 20 degrees C (high) for next few days. Is it still to early in this part of northern CA? (This will be my first year looking hard for them, mostly been finding Amanita Muscaria in this area, last November-December). Thanks for any comments.

Went hunting for about 45 minutes today and found a smallish patch on wood chips beneath some cherry trees. Resulting in a nice pile of 50. Dance for rain, cause I am. Edit: Fixed my pics, and Bob I think its still going to be quuite a while before they poke their heads up in northern cali.

Figured I'd post some pics in here to show off my masterful cyan harvesting skills so new hunters can see how it should be done . k now these are the weapons of choice, lighter is optional and mostly to show scale, but if you're like me you'll want it around soon enough . I like the small scissors like these because you can pick around the little pins and stuff with minimal disturbance to the mulch. observe... before after before after and your shrooms stay nice and clean, ready to eat or dry right outta the bag if you take care of patches like this, not only will the pins there now grow to maturity (assuming they don't get found by someone else), but if taken care of properly a well established patch can produce 3-5+ additional flushes over the season. you're lucky to get one good flush when you pull them right out of the mulch, IME... Well, what a beautiful sunday morning it turned out to be. We have been walking different parks and ecological restorations of Seattle for weeks, and returning to spots. We returned to a fruitfull spot this morning, and behold the fruit. The first patch (although patch sounds small for this beautiful grove), was like its own fairy circle, except all the way around a large grove of trees and blackberry bushes. Hundreds, we found hundreds that wound all the way around. So very many! Then we moved over a bit to a place that had bark from just last year, and in the tall tall grass, HUNDREDS!
Anyways, out of room for awhile to upload, but some cyans were the size of silver dollars and bigger......also MJ said to borealis that there were some cyans that were smaller, darker, and bruised blue-green (potent! i do believe he said Very Potent..we found those as well) TTFN MN

Some advice for potential cyanescens pickers. Walk around a lot! Don't bother with people's yards- stick to parks and ecological restoration projects completed three to five years ago. Look for alder mulch ONLY. The parks use what is donated by tree service companies, so there's all mixes. Once you find the right stuff, you won't bother looking in other environments. It's all the mulch. Not cedar mixed or fresh alder chips, but spongy decomposing alder mulch. Right now, most Cyans are under cover of grass(on wood chips of course) or in very wet areas. Pay attention to the topography and landscape and look where there is little direct sunlight and mini wetland spots from runoff and pooling. You can see the mycelium easily in a good spot, so check back. Diligence will pay itself off easily. You are not hunting if your knees are clean. They are literally everywhere. Lift stuff up, to see whats under. Part the grass. When you find pins, cover them so you can come back later. Happy Hunting All.

Just got back from one of my patches. Found a first strand of shrooms. Got about 25 medium sized ones, and found a bunch that were oozing blue green like your talking about.
TRANSPLANTING TECHNIQUES?!?!?!?!
I found a small log covered in mycilium with about 4 shrooms growing out of it. I brought it home. HOW CAN I TAKE THIS AND CREATE A PATCH AT MY HOUSE! YOUR IMMEDIATE Response would be appriciated so I don't let it get damaged before I find out how to transplant.
Im COVERED in stinging nettle burns, so Im going to tend to these.
Hope everyone elses picking day goes as well as mine. Ill send pictures in a little bit.
EZ!

WOW! thank god for the rain lately! i was walking the tracks in west seattle and found about 100 cyans just hanging out. I have come across 5 new locations all in seattle-ish area that have yeilded huge numbers of cyans this season. Anyone out there care to trade areas? i keep mine quiet, but as it seems so does everyone else around here. Well if anyone is interested... email me at lrntoswim777@aol.com

Just got back from my second patch... Yielded about 75 for the day. For some reason, my patches have all shrunk after 8 years..... HrM?
Sweetloaf: Ive been picking for a very long time. No need to worry about what Im eating. I didnt mean "oozing" literally. They were just solid blue/green.

I saw these out of the corner of my eye while waiting for a bus. Looking around more [and missing the bus] I found more sparse but mature fruits over an entire city block. I didn't pick very many from this spot [I covered it with leaves! ], but it made a nice pic.
It's wierd to be out hunting for cyans and actually getting sweaty. Usually you have to bring an umbrella.
