Why is that most towns and cities are covered with Kerry banners, while rural farming communities always have republican banners?

On a long drive to Kansas City this summer I noticed a strange occurance. I left Milw listening to National Public Radio. As I continued my drive West, I could always find a nice NPR station. Then as I entered a more rural area, I suddenly realized that my NPR station had been hijacked and had suddenly become some looney Christian radio station spouting a lot of hateful rhetoric and no intelligent discussions! No static, just hijacked! It became very obvious that the quality of information in rural areas is very one sided and lacks the quality we have available in a metro area with all the various stations. It is pretty easy to get up every morning and put on your blinders to view the world as a black and white tunnel with no other way of thinking!!

And NPR has opened your mind to a universe of differing viewpoints.

I think it might be a cultural issue. If you look at the maps of what states and counties go Republican and Democrat pretty much all of rural America (90% of the landmass) is Republican, while the major cities, esp. on the East and West coasts are Democrat.

Depends where you are. I'm near Orange County, which, despite being in California, is a Republican stronghold. I see plenty of Bush signs and bumper stickers around here. The R.D. for my dorm actually has a life-size cardboard cutout of Bush(and doesn't even use it as a dart board, either).

Yes that's true. As I recall the Orange County Monitor (?) is supposed to be a conservative paper. It is the same way with Mercer Island in Seattle, one of the most Republican parts of Western Washington. I think what this shows that the exception to the rural/urban dichotomy is rich people living in urban areas who tend to be a little more conservative (not to say there aren't more rich Democrats in urban areas, but pockets of rich and educated Republicans seem to be pretty standard)

socal is traditionally very republican, stemming largley from the military and military contractor influence in cities like diego, oceanside, oc and los angeles.

NPR and Redneck stations are kinda the same, NPR has "All Things Considered..." and right-wing stations in the country have "Shit to thank abouts.."

There are plenty of Democrats on Mercer Island, such as Paul Allen, but I think aside from Pierce County (Kent, Auburn, Tacoma), it is the most Republican part of western Washington. They are pretty snooty there. I guess there is something like 1 Starbucks per square mile.
As for reasons to support Bush, I am neither rich nor 'mentally deficient'. That is a pretty ignorant thing to say.
