friend using poor man's pod. with lava rocks, two bubble wands, two filter patched holes on top, 60 gal air pump, 1:10 h202 water filled an inch from top of rocks.
friend is getting wet caps like these, and other strange looking mushroom formations:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/files/080503-46/11760-Mvc-007s.jpg
the caps are wet to the touch, and lots of them look convoluted and twisted, but otherwise they are growing upwards, strong and healthy. they just look wet and strangely shaped.
there is no contamination either visibly or by smell.
are they just too wet? is that what is causing this? is it too humid? i thought magash said that too much humidity is impossible for cakes?
what should my friend do? should he cycle 12 hrs air pump on / 12 hrs pump off or is the water level too high? thanks.

looks fine, it's probably just some water dripping onto the caps or something

no the pmp doesn't have any water dripping. in fact there's little to no condensation on the walls too. i'm guessing it's just very humid in there.

some of these cubensis are known to have a slimey cap, giving it a wet appearance. everything will be just fine... those mushies look good to me.

The caps do look saturated my friend you'll need to increase fresh air exchanges or decrease RH. Cycling pump timing may help but not as you suggested, try 30on/30off first or if that doesn't help you can run one airstones on top of the lava rock in combination with your submerged one. You don't want too high an RH for a few reasons number one and two being contam rate increases and transpiration decreases Both are indesirable. GL

Hey Crack, try taking your cakes OFF the lava rock. Johnny had the same problem so he bought some aluminum gutter guard and folded it into little racks. Mushies sit on the racks about an inch above the hydroton and they are bone dry and growing larger. The gutter guard was $6.00 for a 20' roll at Ace. Cheers
