Don't just vote for a President on November 2nd

And don't limit your vote merely to November 2nd. The link above shows a page of upcoming primaries in the states that are holding them.
Below that you can enter your US Zip Code to find the local offices that are up for grabs on election day as well. This goes for the Presidential election, your state elections, and House of Representative Elections. It's also a good resource when Senate races come up as well.
Educate yourself about the canidates in your area. At least with a local election you can get the feeling that you're having more of an impact on your community directly rather than participating merely in the nation-wide presidential election.
Feel free to discuss your local canidates and election races here as well

Ah, I don't care as much about my local elections. I'll vote I or D and be done with it.

I'd like to to thank you for not giving a damn about local elections, as it's people like you who have helped the Libertarian party become the third largest party in the nation.

I think I'll vote for Republicans on the national level and Democrats on the local level. I think that is a pretty good balance. I might vote for a Libertarian or two as well.

If I remember correctly, don't you consider yourself a Green? Why wouldn't you want to support that movement as much as possible on the state and local level given you are unfortunately not going to do it on the national level?

I guess they're important, but voting for Independent or Democrat is the best I can do to help without being bothered.

i don't align myself to party lines in the least. There's a Green in my area up for a House Seat and he's getting my vote. If there was a libertarian, i'd problaby go that way.

Think globally. Act locally. Try, if you want, to support candidates outside of the usual. This is the only way an alternative will ever arise. Or don't.

So you're saying an alternative will rise if I vote Republican in my local elections instead of Independent or Democrat?

No clue why you would interpret what he said to mean that. Vote outside the mainstream -- unless you truly believe in the mainstream candidate -- for local elections is what he's saying. If a Green or Libertarian is elected on the local level and does an awesome job, perhaps that will lead to more Greens or Libertarians being elected. Perhaps that will lead to them being more acceptable on the state and federal levels. Personally I believe one should vote his conscience at every level of government. What he is saying has merit regardless. Please correct me if I misinterpreted Zappa.

I might vote Kerry is Pres.. but i'll be damned if i'm voting for a corporate party in local elections. I think by backing the best chance to beat Bush.. is my conscience, b/c i'm wiliing to sacrifice for the greater good. I can push more of my idealism at a local level though without the possibility of doing far more harm than good.

Why do we even speak of which parties we are voting for? Why don't we speak about the candidates? Here we are saying things like:
Quote:
Ahh, any independent will do on a local level. If I have to, i'll vote Democrat.
No, not just "any independent" will do, many times independents are whack jobs who use elections as platforms for their whack job agendas... And many times I agree with one party idea but disagree with another idea, that is why I do not vote party lines...
Vote for the candidate, not the party...
although I do understand that a vote for a candidate is a vote for the party... but there are differences between candidates of the same party
