Question about spent casing...

the following is hypothetical...

say someone had a casing that had gotten 3 flushes out of

1 - 170 grms
2 - 70 grms
3 - 50 grms

Coul the person soak the case, then break up the mycellium and make two smaller cases out of it with verm on bottom, then myc, then a verm/peatmoss mix on top?

would they work all over again as a new case would, or is the myc probably pretty much spent?

I think that if you can avoid any contamination if there already is none present you could attempt to colonize more substrate with your spent spawn and recase.Feed that myc some more.See what happens.

feed it some more? how so? you mean like put some of it in a jar with maybe some coffee-ground brown rice and shake it up and let it go in an incubator?

so you don't think just breaking it up and re-casing would work?

I did that with some cakes a while back and it worked fine. Just have to be careful and clean doing it to avoid contams.

If it's spent anyhow its worth trying since i would imagine you were going to just toss the casing anyhow.

I think you should be dunking between flushes...second flush should be similar to first, possibly even more. I get about 170 grams per flush for the first two and usually about the same for the third so far (sometimes more like 150).

I dont see how breaking it in half would do any good, you could just leave it together and dunk and recase (I do between every flush in 3 parts h202 (3%) and 7 parts waters). If you mean crumble it up again then your just going to make the myc do more work getting back together and use up their nutrients.

my friend said it would be recased, with a bottom layer of 1 inch wet verm and an inch of wet verm/peatmoss on top

You can always break it up and put it under a pile of cow shit outside your house (depending on the strain).

How do you dunk a casing between flushes? Do you remove the casing and soak the substrate and then recase? Or do you soak the substrate and casing together and then recase that whole wad? Thanks!!
