Inconsistent pinning, harvest worries? EDIT PIC added.

A gnome i know has recently cased some BRF-PF style jars within the last week and has a few questions. Casing ingredients are of: Peat: 4 parts Verm: 2 parts Limestone flour: 1 part Water: 2 parts Since optimal conditions have obviously not been met, mushrooms are at varying degrees of maturity, with a small amount of hyphal knotting occurring / small pins emerging along with some medium to mature mushroom formation. From what he gathers the 'norm' is to harvest either just pre/post veil breaking. With this in mind he would have to disturb immature pins while harvesting. His main worry is the possibility of damaging the casing/newly forming fruits. What should/can he do? or is he just over paranoid. PIC for ref: 120kb Any help much appreciated. Cheers.

Get used to the idea of sacrificing pins in the harvest of shrooms. Somtimes when I have a shroom that has to be picked and it has several very nice pins attached, I cut the shroom off with a knife.
Time and experience will be your teacher
Casing can be fun and silly

First thing I notice is CO2 levels are on the high side, requiring a little more fanning. You can let those mature ones go as long as you want in order for the smaller ones to get caught up. There will be the point where sacrifices must be made. Remember to patch the areas where the larger shrooms have been picked. An even pinset allows "the majority" to mature all at once meaning pulling all at once, large ones and small (they should all be around the same as far as maturity) this is where a proper pinning strategy comes in quite handy. Yeah I have done that and more I think Bolwarra was asking what to do with shrooms that are stuck to pins.

I have accepted some sacrificing as *Fucknuckle has put it. just wanted to cover any other possible options. On the other hand, i thought my C02 levels would have been ok?, i have been fanning quire regularly, why do you think this is so *hyphae? (i'm not disagreeing, just curious, i obviously have some fairly leggy mushrooms here (is this a typical sign?).

Long stems and small caps are often a sign of higher co2 levels, they get a very typical look to them. How often do you fan per day? There are other factors also that can cause stretch somewhat light insufficient lighting. In your case it not real bad but signs are still there. GL

hmmm, on avge 4-5 times a day. I assumed it was because of lighting, early on the majority were leaning at like 20-30.deg since then they have straightened up without any change in light source/intensity etc.... i've been using indirect sunlight approx 12 h/day. Other than that my initial BRF/verm ratio wasn't accuratly measured, so yea who knows, whole host of variables as you mentioned. any ways i'm not all that worried, as you said 'its not all that bad in this case'. cheers again, appreciate the follow up.
