Making jars...can you reuse the lids?

Hey, I am gonna be pcing up 20 jars of rye today. I am using widemouth pint jars, but my question is. I have old lids that I have used from doing this before, and they already have the hole in the top. Question is, can I reuse these lids today, or just use new ones? I know in regular canning you can't reuse because it wont seal, but since we have a big ass hole in the middle, it doesn't seal anyway, you know?
let me know ASAP if it's cool to reuse. thanks.

Clean them, rubbing alc them, and pressure cook them before you re-use them. Then put them back on and do the normal process.

Yep except skip the alc part it's redundant as you'll be PCing anyway GL

PCing is always a more fullproof method. You could boil I guess... but don't come screaming if it contams. I'd boil for an hour or more if I were to try that.

Yes, you can re-use the lids right now. Just load the seed into the jars and pc, everythings gonna get sterilized anyway right?

When you will you people learn. Throw out your lids. Use doubled over heavy duty tin foil. 1. Cut peice 9"x4.5" 2. Fold in Half. 3. Place over top of jar to be covered 4. Form over jar with hands 5. Screw a band over it. 6. Push the foil upwards to the band to compress it 7. Unscrew band 8. Observe top notch lid that you can rip off and toss when time comes. a la anno

Why bother with all that shit when you can just re-use the damn lid with no fear of contamination???

"All that shit" is easier than lids. Try a dozen with it insted of traditional lids, you'll see what I'm saying is true.

You can reuse lids until they rust away.I don't bother with any of that pre boiling, Pcing jar shit. When I birth cakes I have new substraight ready to go in them right away. Out goes the cak in goes the fresh Substrate. No washing no nothin. From birth straight to PC. Pcing kills everything. And the jars are basicly sterial when you birth them anyway. Mabey I am lazy or weird but that is how I have been doin it for years. There are times when I am not making a new batch right away and then I just wash e'm like any other dish. Sink soap, rack ,cupboard.

Your tex will only work with jars that have a verm layer on top. I would have a hard time beliving that would work using whole grains.

I usually just rinse the lid off well, and let it dry. When it comes time to use, I just use it like a new lid.
You might want to replace the polyfil every other time or something. I'd put a fresh piece of tape over the inocculation hole every time.

He's right, it does work absolutely perfectly. It is quite a good idea (I think it was Shroom Wizards Tek originally) because it creates an imperfect seal between the jar and the outside world allowing some Co2 escape without direct passage into the jars.
And yes it works for grain.
Its particularly useful if you want to save money and just buy glasses, the foil is very good for lids.

Of course it works but why even bother wasting your time if your jars have lids??? Thats the point I'm trying to get across.
