Laughing Gyms in Florida?

Anyone out there ever found active Gyms in Florida? I have found several clumps of what I believe to be 'some' species of Gym. but they have failed to bruise blue. I still have another patch to check that I found the other day. Just curious if anyone has found some in N. Florida. Cheers

If I were to ever find those, I would just give out a big howling laugh upon sight!
Like a "Ho Ho" type laugh.

these are the ones listed in "A Worldwide Geographical Distribution of the Neurotropic Fungi, An Analysis and Discussion"
for Florida:
Gymnopilus liquiritae G. luteofolius G. sapineus
----
Ok and the ones that i have found personally are:
Gymnopilus luteofolius G. luteoviridis G. luteus G. sapineus*
* the Gymnopilus sapineus mushrooms i found i do not believe were psychoactive, they exhibited zero bluing or greening,, or its also possible i didn't identify them precisely
----
and i don't believe i have ever come across Gymnopilus liquiritae either.
its confusing trying to identify gymn's.
the species G. luteus and species G. luteoviridis have been found by me here, and positively identified them and they're not even recorded into the data at that 'worldwide distribution' paper. so those are actually two more species of psychoactive mushrooms to grow in florida!
and i do not believe i have ever found G. spectabilis (the big laughing Jim), here in southwest florida. it probably grows in northern florida i bet

Gymnopilus luteus stains a more of a greenish color especially after you pick them, the blue/green slowly becomes completely apparant 6-12 hours after you pick them. and its a rather large mushroom.
Gymnopilus luteoviridis stain green, and it takes the mushrooms many hours before you can really even start to see the green coloring. i remember that the actual mycelium on the tree stump i found it was staining blue but not the actual mushrooms, they stained green.
Gymnopilus luteofolius are a highly variable in appearance and also in potency. some of the luteofolius mushrooms are mostly yellow/orange caps and dont stain blue, but the riper specimens with the dark-purple colored caps will have blue. the blue on the caps doesnt really stain, its just already there, usually in splotches and they almost appear ultra dark purple/blue. the stems of the mushrooms will stain blue..

Are any of the Gymnopilus species particularly toxic (throwing up, diarrhea, abdominal cramps). How many specimens does it usually take to feel the effects? Also are there any mushroom species that closely resemble Gyms macroscopically that occur in the same habitat that may be poisonous ('really' poisonous)? Thanks for any and all info.

GGreatOne234:
Would you mind giving any more valuable information as to what kind of habitat(s)/ locations you found these in, frequency and of course: do you recommend ingestion?
Thanks---

last year during the month of june and july i found about 14 seperate species of gymnopilus.
3 of those were psychoactive.
all species (about 30 different collections) were photographed, spore printed, dried, identified, cataloged and labeled; the whole shabang.
all specimens were going to be sent to dr james kimbrough at the university of gainesville florida herbarium for deposit and further identification.
8 species spore-prints were sent off to a shroomery member with a microscope and also a copy of the monograph for north american gymnopilus species. -all 8 species were positively identified by me with no microscope, and all 8 species were verified to be correctly ID'd with the microscope by another person.
shortly after sending those 8 prints out, my living situation was disrupted and the entire project including all dried specimens and hundreds of spore prints were, i guess you could say either lost or just stolen.
all that remains are these pictures.
i was extremely high on hydroponic buds while doing this research, that is why everything was extensively labeled and cataloged.
i have pictures still, and some memory.

Only users loose drugs, or in this case spores.
I'm glad you still have the photos GG; those purple Gyms look awesome.

they were not lost, more-like stolen, because i had invested so much time and passion into the project.
stolen and ultimately tossed into the trash.

Sorry to hear about that GG. I'm sure whoever stole them had no idea the treasure they were holding.
