Ok so my buddy got a mirror 8qt PC the other day. He has never used a PC before and the instructions are somewhat vague, he just wants to make sure he is using it correctly and getting the correct 15 psi he needs If there are any of you who use this same PC could you post up I'd like to send you a PM with a couple questions about correct use

You'll want water up too the rack 1/2-5/8in. follow your jar prep and load, cover and turn the heat source on high allow a strong head of steam to build and let it billow for a few minutes the reason for this it to get rid of dry air pockets in the PC. place the weight on @15 and let the pressure build after you hear the first giggle turn the heat down to medium, the important thing is to get the weight giggling 3-4 times a minute, too much giggling will cause the water to boil excessively and anything liquid will boilover (agar, Karo) it also increases the chance of running your PC dry (not good). I like to get it set right off the bat so I have a system of high, med. then a tad below med. anyway once the giggle is at 3-4 thats when ya start the timing 15-20min. for liquids, 30-45min. for 1/2pt. brf, quarts of grains 90min. Heavily filled PC's will need added times BTW GL

i use that pressure cooker. it only goes up to 10 PSI, which is no big deal. just make your jars up as usual, and put em into the PC. i can fit 4 jelly jars into mine. fill it with a good amout of water, if your PCing 4 jars bring it up about as far as you think would be good, if only 1 jar, bring it up about 1/3 the size of the jar. then just PC for 45 minutes. iv done this with 10 jars, and i havent had a single contam.

Thanks for the replies guys and also for the PM's, Paint the 8 quart one can do 15 psi and it has this round ball type thing on the top with 4 small holes, supposedly from the directions this is what you use to get the 15 PSI.
What my friend told me was when he got the rapid boil steam was escaping at a rapid pace, but never really seemed to rock. Having never used one before dont really even know what exactly that means is the PC actually supposed to move around a bit?
I'll have to ask some of the people who actually use this type and see if he is following the correct steps thanks all again for your time

So after he allows the steam to escape for a few minutes and he puts the weight on there will be no steam escaping until 15lbs. is reached then it will giggle like crazy thats why you lower the temp so that it giggles 3-4 times a minute otherwise your are not building any pressure, well not 15lbs.

Well for some reason my weight didnt wobble like other pc's.. it does giggle but nothing like others ive seen.. its not as loud either.. but ive tested it over and over..
Just make sure it gets to the point where it giggles around and some steam is comin from the holes and turn down the heat and it should stay the same and your golden.

I have a mirro 4.2 quart pressure cooker with the little pressure weight. It's 10 PSI and works great so far.Only problem is you can only fit a small amount of jars in.I noticed at walmart.com that they have an 18 and 23 quart Pressure Canner (with pressure guage),both made by Presto. The 18 quart was $69 and the 23 was $97.18 quart is out of stock, but once it's back in stock I am going to sprig for one of those.

i was looking at this sexy lady http://www.goodmans.net/get_item_mi-92022_mirro-22-quart-aluminum-pressure-cooker-and-canner.htm What does anyone have to say about that? I may be getting it in the next few days so your opinions are appreciated. unfortunately i don't have $150 for a AA yet, and if i get thi one i might not need it. i'll settle for a toyota no need for a cadillac ;-)
My current pressure cooker is a "splendid" by the company "fagor". Something tells me they're a bunch of fagors over there cause i can only fit 3 pints in that thing.
