the best, hands down, to me, is Tool "Aenima"...any other tool album is a close second, especially Lateralus.
Also, any ambient electronic.

Ok, here's the obvious ones that I can think of. These are not all of my favorites, but most people will enjoy these artists while tripping. If you are tripping with a group, it is best to stick with artists that please the masses. Otherwise you will be changing the music a lot... which igets annoying during a trip. I'll post some funkier, lesser known stuff later. Radiohead: I especially like their albums from OK Computer to present. Pink Floyd: Anything Floyd is good in my book. Get 'em all. Pick a favorite. Floyd knows how to guide a good trip. Phish: Some people love 'em, some hate 'em... but there is no denying Phish's effectiveness while tripping. Very rhythmic band. Flaming Lips: Less known than Phish but the Lips have been around forever. I especially like Zaireeka! It is a 4 cd album... meant to be played on 4 cd players simultaneously! It makes a great trip activity! What if you don't have 4 cd players? Any combination will make for a unique Zaireeka experience. Don't worry if the disks aren't perfectly synced. It'll still do its thing. Beatles: Anything from 1965-66 on... need I say more? They're the fucking Beatles! Once they started making trip-rock, they did it as well as anyone... and... they're the fucking Beatles! Grateful Dead: Uh... I hear they're good for trips... uh... what was I saying? Jimmi Hendrix: OMFG... this guy tripped a lot. Bjork: She rocks, while still managing to sound a bit like a yodeling cat who was hit by a bus. Great stuff... especially if you like Radiohead. Dave Matthew's Band: Like most jam bands, Dave's Band is disliked by some and enjoyed by many. Their live shows are quite nice. I like Live at Red Rocks a lot. Live in Central Park's cool too. Crash is my favorite studio album. Zeppelin: The best jam band ever. Listen to 'em live once you're tired of the studio stuff. The Orb: Electric gurus of triptronica. Peter Gabriel: He does it... I don't know if he meant to... but he does it. Great progressive trip albums... especially his later stuff. Sigur Ros: Worth getting, even if you have no clue who they are. Radiohead loves 'em! Google 'em to learn more about this band from Iceland. Portishead: Cool atmospheric stuff... like Sigur Ros or Radiohead's later stuff... but different. Portishead has a female singer. Beth's awesome. Beck: He's the man. Especially Odelay and Midnight Vultures... Sea Changes is nice and mellow. Classical Music: Pick a favorite symphony... or take a wild guess. Religious music, or chants: For spiritual trips, helps focus your mind. Nature Sounds: Best music on earth.

Paul Oakenfold's Tranceport Album. The music feels like an eagle soaring in your mind. Everything is so clean and happy it just makes for an excellent trip. The Chemical Brothers dig your own hole and exit planet dust are very psychedelic. The Stone Roses with the album of the same name is really melodic and relaxing.

Whatever music you already like is the best, some people suggested infected mushroom to me and it fucked up my trip so badly, its a load of shit, in my eyes. I could make music like that SO easily, trance music and all that is just too easy. I like Tupac, Eminem, and Nirvana

I wouldnt waste my time, i make hip hop beats and help out some rock bands record, i love all music but trance/techno really isnt my cup of tea, made for pill heads as far as im concerned.
If you got music talent trance/house/techno is piss easy, you just have to know how to make progressive layered beats.
