I'm very big on Noam Chomsky at the moment. The guy's intellect and honesty is insane.

oH jELLO bIAFRA...
AND nOAM cHOMSKY...
-------------------- A plethora of music aspirations control my temptations of future revelations beyond "now". The percussion, and the heart beat of my love and devotion. The rhythm goes beyond, prying into the third eye, releasing the creativity held so far inside. The melodicies, through the out of tune pianos and broken classical guitars...there lies a beauty. A beauty as prevelent as the fire inside. To release these energies is pure ecstacy, to deveop these gifts is sacred. The vocality, so pure as can be, shying away from herself, lies within me. For the underlying serenitity, this is what I live for. I plea for harmony, and nothing more. Music equals love. Creation of love leads to the procreativity of the World, and it's spirals and puddles prevailing.

Milton Friedman is the greatest American still living today.
"Free To Choose: a personal statement" by Milton and Rose Friedman is the greatest book that I have ever read. I highly recommend it for conservatives, libertarians, as well as anyone else on the other side who wants to know the very best that we have to offer.
Though he has been an economic advisor to Presidents and won a Nobel Prize, he has never been active in politics. He has always been content to wage war in the battle of ideas. I have never met a man though a book that had better ideas. More than any book that I have ever read, it changed both my life and the way I look at humanity.
"Free To Choose" is a book about economics, philosophy and freedom. The great thing about Milton is that he makes things quite simple. After you listen to his common sense you realize their couldn't be any other way.
Freedom is good thing. "Free to Choose" should be read by anyone who wants to consider themselves an intellectual. If you don't read it, you deprive yourself of partaking in one of the greatest minds of our age. I implore you, I flat out beg you to read that book.

Noam Chomsky?????? Are you fucking kidding me??? Even many of his linguistics theories are under fire. Don't get me wrong, as a psycholinguistics student 30 years ago I found his theories very creative, thought provoking and highly respected. A great many are under fire (see Stephen Pinker) but he was still a pioneer in the field and deserves respect for at least that. But, frankly, I wouldn't elect him dog catcher. Lunatic fringe doesn't begin to describe him.
By the way tyke, nice list of loons

In some ways, yes, very much so. He denied the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle with the remark that god does not play dice. He was quite wrong. Why on earth would you come to the conclusion that someone who was supremely talented in the area of basicaly otherwordly mathematics would have any competence whatsoever managing a Burger King, much less a town, state, or nation?
I hated JFK but I really liked RFK, but who knows what he would've been. Still, he stuck it to Hoffa and Hoover (J Edgar). I liked Teddy but I hate and resent FDR as the most damaging president we ever had.
I like Zell Miller and I liked Bush 1. I think he got fucked taking the fall for Reagan's economy and would have been far better at ending this shit we're in now early. Don't forget, it was not at all a sure thing that ANYBODY would kick Iraq out of Kuwait and he put together basicly the whole world to do it. His only mistake was that he didn't push hard enough to finish the job although that may not have been attainable then either. If we had finished the job then, we wouldn't have needed to keep troops to protect Saudi Arabia, which seems to be the particular peeve of Bin Laden.

I like Chomsky a lot as well (I wrote a journalism graduation paper on his comparative analysis of media coverage of the Khmer rouge regime and the invasion of East Timor, and applied it to some European papers; he turned out to be every inch right). But then, he isn't a politician.
People also named economists (Friedman, von Mises,...). Some time ago, I would have thrown JK Galbraith in there. Very intelligent and sensible guy, but lacks radicality. And he's not a politician either, although he came very close. (Is he still alive, BTW? He must be extremely old by now.)
In fact, I have a hard time admiring real politicians. You've got to be a selfish and ruthless bastard or (very rarely) a completely self-sacrificing person to survive in that kind of life.
I'd probably say Gandhi.

Can you elaborate somewhat? I guess it's easy to disagree with him, as his views are so remote from the daily TV propaganda that most people won't even understand what he's talking about. but why call him lunatic? I think he's rational to the extreme.
Lunatic quotes, please, and/or good reasons for disagreement. Thanks.

Would you refute that? In the modern day, he has hundreds of milions of followers and many Arab countries following his teachings. Whether or not you agree with him, he had genius to sway so many countries and their people to him after his death
