Frequency of bad trips with mushrooms
    #2977515 - 08/08/04 04:39 AM (19 years, 7 months ago)

Just wondered if we could get an idea of how many people have bad trips with mushrooms.
How often do you have a bad trip on mushrooms
You may choose only one

I was wondering if you could substitue the word "bad" for difficult? I don't know...I've had trips that were very difficult but I could never call them bad.

Same here, i've had some very rough trips, but maybe only one or two that I would call bad for various reasons.

well i think our friend means really bad trips! i have had 4 till now. And i have tripped on mushrooms almost 500 times. But these 4 trips were really really bad, i yhought my heart stopped, that i was dying, i couldnt breath and many scary stuff.
even though i think these bad trips are "teachers". so maybe they are not bad at all;-)

I haven't had a bad trip in that sense, altho one time I thought I killed my roommate, which you would think would be a really bad trip, but I wasn't overly upset by it *shrugs*

Fair point. It was just with the recent posts about people having bad trips. I remember Leary saying that in days before psychedelics were made illegal bad trips were unheard of. Especially with psilocybin - i think he said there wasn't a single bad experience with psilocybin out of hundreds of people who took it, but there were a few with LSD.

The implication being that the propaganda about "bad trips" has an effect on people. When there was no scare propaganda, there were no bad trips.

Yeah I think the proposition of a bad trip has an effect on people because a person will go into the trip worried and anxious about whether it'll be good or bad.

The come up always is a little difficult for me. Just a general feeling of discomfort. The peak and come down have always been very good/brilliant.

But I never ate more than 3.5g

I'm almost sure I won't have a real "bad trip"in a good place if I don't take more than 3.5g. I'm not sure for higher doses.

Next trip will be 4g.

my first bad trip was when i ate 5g cubes. After this i was thinking all the time (very stupid) when i was going to trip if i would have a bad trip again and i had several bad trips even with doses like 3-3,5g.
i wish i would never had this damn bad trip, it gave fear in my mind which i didnt want:-((

I think most bad trips happen because people are scared to have a bad trip and think about it all the time resulting in a "do I have a bad trip right now" loop which actually results in a bad trip.

I don't know, but it's one of my bad trips theories.

Not to say i've tripped a great deal, but many of them have been under unfavorable conditions for the tripping mind (non trippers around, stressful situations) but i've never really had a bad trip. I've actually seen my visuals go to the negative vibes once or twice, but i quickly focused on something else until they melted away.

My definition of "bad trip" has totally changed over time.

A bad trip happens when you think you might bad trip.

The past 2 times I took shrooms, it was at very bad times... and both times I ended up puking. One of those times I was on 5 grams, and I spiraled into that feeling of me puking... worst trip of my life. The other trip was just 2 grams, and I pulled myself out of it.

Shrooms tend to make me feel uncomfortable, and I can't sit down or stop moving... I just walk in circles. Weed can usually take care of that though.

"Shrooms tend to make me feel uncomfortable, and I can't sit down or stop moving"

Yes I find that most people experience a very powerful "restlessness" or "unease" or something like that where they really feel very compelled to DO SOMETHING.

This takes away from the trip - this distracts you from your brain. Try just one trip laying down with your eyes closed without moving (except for restroom of course...) for at least a couple hours  You may be impressed with the power.

I've started realizing that dose isn't the only factor in how hard I trip. If I take a low dose and just lay down in dark silence, I'll have a much stronger trip than if I take a higher dose and dance around somewhere with a large crowd of people, because there is so much to distract me from myself.

Anyway, I'm getting off topic..

To be honest, all the times where I've seen people (including myself) become extremely restless while tripping it was because they were fighting the trip.

Only you know if this was the case for you, but it's something to think about.  :sun:
