King Bolete?
    #2965675 - 08/04/04 07:39 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

Found these while having lunch at the park today. They were coming up in several places, near the spruce trees.

To my very untrained eye, they look like King Bolete. What do you think.

Beautiful picture!!!!

I don't think so , but I've never
found them myself.. I would look at
the stipe for reticulation... also it doesn't appear
to be bulbous which is a common trait
if I am correct. in boletus edulis...

I set it as my wallpaper.. Love those boletes....
Thanks Nofindum....

It looks a little too red, and a little too small.

What ever it is it certainly is a beautiful photo.

My first thought is that they look like Suillus.

We need to see the stem in detail to start an ID for most boletes.

Happy mushrooming!

Thanks, I took my new camera to lunch with me to get some pictures of the various flowers at the park.  As it happened, it has been very damp for several days, and the mushrooms are coming up very nicely.  I'll have to get some more pics tomorrow, and I'll try to clean the grass off a little better

I found this little guy too, but I didn't try to get enough info for an ID.

Does'nt seem to be boletus edulis, stipe does not agree with ID of boletus E.
It certainly looks like a suillus as was mentioned in one reply.Possibly suillus,(slippery jack,or slippery jill).Although here in Ct. they usually appear late Sept..Again the jack&jills normally have a viscous cap

I agree with the others on the first picture.

The second one...looks interesting. Where are you located?

Omaha, Nebraska. That one was growing in open grass in the middle of the park, about 50 yards from the lake. Not far from the spruce trees.

I beleave king boletes are a darker brown/red cap. With a much thicker more meaty cap. Are the pores white or yellow?
