A few Ps. weilii images
    #2951842 - 08/01/04 12:43 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

Found a few Ps. weilii in my woodland patch earlier this week. Then I came over here to the parents to use the computer and there were two weilii growing just a few feet from the hibiscus they planted last spring. I guess the small amount of disturbence to the ground when planting the bushes was enough to bring up a few weilii this year

these first few pics are the two weilii I just found a few minutes ago here at the parents, the rest are from my woodland patch. All this heat lately has really slowed down the cubes and brought weilii to a near hault. I'm lucky to have a woodland patch that is shaded and on the banks of a small creek, because of the habitat they fruit all season in that patch.

Weilii... how I would love to find a patch. Are there any reportings of Weilii in the metro Atlanta area? Like Midtown, for example.

Psilocybe atlantis
Psilocybe weilii

How can you not love Atlanta?

Like I said, the woodland patch I speek of is located just a few feet from a small creek and the area is very shaded, it stays fairly moist back there, thus producing fruits nearly all season from late april through november. The two mushrooms I found at my parents today were probably fruting because ma waters her hibiscus on a very regular basis, and the shaded provided by the bushes, kind of a micro-habitat so to speak.

I am not aware of any patches inside the perimeter of atlanta, but that doesn't mean they aren't there. If you think about it though, not much construction takes place inside the perimeter, and definately not much in the way of new residential development either, which is Psilocybe weilii's favored habitat.

Well, I have picked Ps. atlantis, as well as another unidentified Psilocybe found by the same guy at the same time as Ps. atlantis. Both can be somewhat common in the right areas(don't ask I won't tell!) I also pick thousands of mushrooms that I discovered a few years ago that are more than likely another sperate new species of Psilocybe. It is possible though that what I call "a new species of psilocybe" could possibly be Ps. atlantis, but I doubt it.

Heres a few pics, not sure if I have enough space left today to share what I'd like to, and I had to compromise the quality of the following just to post them, but its better than nothing.
A group shot.

These are Ps. atlantis

These are another new species of Psilocybe that I think are still unamed, but I'm not sure, they might have been named by now.

And this is the new species I found.

*Hint for new pickers*

Bermuda grass is the type of grass that golf courses use. Basically golf courses are wide open fields for picking in the fall.

How tight is the general perimeter for weilii? How many miles outside of roswell in any direction do you suspect they stop growing?

Well, an old user of ours, Moe Howard, found them growing in a park in Chattanooga. I find them growing around Lake Lanier. LK has picked them down in the Lathonia area. Jahfeelerie picks them out in Athens. I'd say the range is pretty large.

It's too hot, just because Lizard King has found some doesent mean you'll even get close to one. LK has patches that are known to produce, that he located in the fall. It's alot easier going back to a bunch of known locations to see if 1 or 2 have popped up then locating them randomly.

You're talking about just going out and randomly searching hoping youll trip over an out of season weilii flush. If you have't got a patch then just wait till the end of spetember and go out after the first heavy rain.

Any more word on your new species Lizard King? How are things comming along with it. You could name it Psilocybe lacerta, since it has scales, and you are the Lizard king.

LK, how come you did not have that checked out? You should have, in my opinion.

Anyway, I'm thinking about mapping the growth and dispersement of weilii for a few years or so. I think it would be cool to see how a species spreads. So, anyone who has found weilii, post where you found them and a picture to confirm (to make sure we don't have any bullshitters).

Thanks

thats the thing, ive checked all my two golf courses, and both backyards that I know of. the only time I go randomly is for fun, and I enjoy hunting more than anything. if i found a shitton my hunt would be over, I hate that. where is this guy pulling this fungus out of? there is no fungus of anykind anywhere in this state! my macon cowfields are empty, heat sucks. i cry for rain.
