it's a baltimore oriole (sp?), it's just sitting there on the grass not moving, even when I get really close to it. I don't wanna disturb/touch it but i'm wondering if there is anything I could or should do to help it, ie. give it some water on a dish or some bread crumbs or something?

Poke it lightly with a stick, if it's still alive, it is probably sick and you shouldn't mess with it. Just put it under a napkin or something and ensure it dies in peace. If it looks like it's suffering you could choose to euthanate it.

Poor thing! I hope it goes in peace. Maybe a cat injured it or it flew into a window or something.

if the bird is hurting you can just break its neck or let nature run the show like it has in all times. i wouldnt try to feed it or heal it in anyway. i know many think thats cruel but in nature only the strong survive and a sick bird is not strong in any way so let it die or break its neck if you feel sorry for the bird

You might be able to nurse it back to health but it might be infected with West Nile. If you can't do anything then you should either let nature take its course or put it out of its misery.

it has moved about 2 meters from where I first saw it, but it looks terrible, it's breathing noticeably heavy and it's head is buried within the down feathers. I think this bird may be the mother that had built it's nest on the side of my house for the past two years, each year it had three new borns and they are all flying around my backyard being really loud and stuff. This makes me think birds can somehow sense that something is wrong, there is about 5 or 6 baltimore orioles, two sun flower birds, 2 woodpeckers on my bird feeder, and like three other smaller birds. they're all flying around chasing each other and playing. My backyard is on the edge of a forest but i've never seen so many birds in my yard all at once. I think this bird ate too many grubs and is now sick, or maybe too many berries. I watch these guys feed on bugs from my lawn and they eat like pigs I tell you!

birds are cool.
at my moms house a bird used to make a nest yearly in a planter right next to the back door and you could stand right next to it and it wouldn't get scared or anything.
and there is a duck that for the past 3 years has made a nest behind our air conditioner....haven't seen it yet this year though

Deffintly don't touch it.. We've had 6 birds found dead and infected with West Nile in my area (Florida Panhandle,Gulf Coast) But thats normal for us every year tho it seems as the past few years. Also why i dont hunt/ go out camping without my DEET!
