making grow bags..

i saw empty grow bags available on websites where you put your own substrate in the bags instead of buying pre mixed. can you boil these bags in a large pot after putting the substrate in, and are they self sealing or how do you seal the tops? wont the steam get through the white air exchange patches when there in the pot/ PC with a lid on it adding more water content to the substrate?

They're called oven bags, an elastic and some kind of ring stuffed with cotton.. You fill the bag with substrait and water , wrap the top of the bag around your circular plug and put on the elastic to hold it. Then stuff the ring with cotton and PC. Fuck buying it pre prepped and waisting money when they are easy to make.

You can just buy 100 mycobags for 30c each ($30) and just seal em with a $35 impulse sealer, no McGyver stuff.

You can get an impulse sealer to seal the tops, or just use a couple twist ties, as shown here:

You can get bags with a special filter patch, which allows you to seal the bag before you put it into the PC. The steam has to get in to sterilize the substrate.
