Amazing growth of Tr. pachanoi grafted on Pereskiopsis
    #2899325 - 07/17/04 07:39 AM (19 years, 8 months ago)

This plant was grafted as a few weeks old seedling, 7 months ago. Growth has been phenomenal. Normally Tr. pachanoi doesn't branch, but this one certainly does. It has not been topped, the largest branch is the main stem, the rest are pups.
I took these images just before i chopped off all branches and it's now sprouting more than 12 new pups!
These plants could provide for more than 20 new rootstocks for grafting each year.

Here's an unrelated pic of some recently aquired Penis plant cuttings (tr bridgesii monstrosus).

Amazing! I grafted a pachanoi onto pereskiopsis a few days ago, I hope I have just a fraction of that sort of success!

Got any more pics to post? Go on, please..?

Very nice, Una. I notice the pereskiopsis stock looks very thick, maybe a couple inches thick. My peres I have growing is thin but I suppose they get large like any cactus. How big are your stock plants and did you grow them yourself? Do you recommend topping the pereskiopsis to make it branch more? Mine was getting tall and skinny and less than 1/2" thick.

Yes those are some crested pachanois in the back....

I have some Pereskiopsis that i keep cutting back when i need new rootstocks. The plants sprout new shoots below the cut, often two or three. If you don't top, they will hardly branch at all(like most cacti). These stockplants are not that high but rather bushy from all the cutting. Now that it's summer i can take cutting every two weeks or so. These cuttings root in 10 days and are used when they are 7-15 cm.

The Pereskiopsis stem in the picture actually is about 0,7 cm thick, that's why the plantt needed two sticks for support. It's clearer in this pic. As you can see the pachanoi is throwing out roots so it wants to grow even faster!

Those are looking extremely healthy. Grafting seems to work wonders, even with such a small host cactus.

I just finished reading the grafting section on your site, Una. It was extremely informative and well-written. Unfortunately there are no sites here in the US that offer the abudance of products are resources that mushmush.nl does. Cheerio, nonetheless.

Una, that is totally amazing. I was assuming from the top photo that the peres must be at least as wide as the base of the cactus cluster but that closeup is mind boggling! I would have thought that it's a waste to use it for san pedro but with the results you get, it's a smart move. I can see now that I'm going to have to build up my peres stock until I have a bunch of it. I would imagine that it would work equally well on other cacti like bridgesii, t peruvianus and so on. My main peres plant has put out two branches after I topped it. Is it a good idea to keep topping and cutting off branches? Will it continue making new branches or does it get tired after a while?

Damn I remember the peyote pics from awhile back.

I thought to myself,I need a Perekiopsis, then you show me these panchoi pics!

I am poor right now, and the search for cuttings is hard, but I am going to start again.

Do you know and vendors in canada UNA????????  ????

(The government here acts so fucking insane about this plant, and when I check THEIR websites about the enviroment, they say its no threat!! ....well why act like dicks and charge so much for photographs , etc of the plant?)

This is amazing. I thought that my pachanois and peruvianus' already grow fast as hell and now you've made them grow even faster. Bravo

I'm always in awe of what Una shows us.

I went ahead and started growing Periskiopsis just for the purpose of doing the type of grafting you have done. I've just grafted some Lopho's and a Bridgesii. In a month or so I'm going to try some Aztekiums.

Have you ever tried grafting Aztekium? They are like pinheads forever and rate up there as the most difficult cactus I've tried to grow.
