Well in my opinion if you want to move up dont go to grow bags. Id start growing with grains and once youve gotten the hang of casings something like rye bye itself, start spawning it to things like straw or compost.

In my experience ive had great experience spawning grain to compost. Ive had much less problem with contams than when I attempted using straw. Ive also had success spawning to compost/straw mixtures.

The next logical step would be to start with grains and casings. As hawksapprentice and others have stated. Spawning bulk substrates is not that much farther away. Grains are just as easy as the PF (easier IMO because less work is involved), it is just you must move on from fruiting from cakes. No matter what, your next step is clearly casing...
If you want to increase your flushes, spawning bulk substrates (specifically manure or manure/straw mixes) is the clear choice. I also suggest you try rye or popcorn to start with, as it is much more forgiving than WBS in terms of moisture content...

Pet stores, look for millet, or finch seed. Try to get ones without aditives.
