San Pedro: Does height play a facor in potency?
    #2875897 - 07/10/04 12:32 PM (19 years, 8 months ago)

At an online vendor, there is a 12" San Pedro cutting for $25 and 3 6" cuttings for $21. The former can be summed up as 18" for $21. Does the 12" have more alkaloids due to its longer lifespan or would the 3 smaller cuttings actually provide more mescaline et al.?

just shorter chunks of the same age of cacti.not younger smaller ones. take a 12 and cut it into 6 inches isnt goign to decrease the potency

width plays a big factor in potency as well. a 12" cutting with a 2"-3" diameter will be far less potent as a 12" cutting with a 5-6" diameter. also, sometimes size cannot determine potency at all. a large specimen of cacti could seem like it has a good amount of alkaloids but it could have had a quick growth rate with plenty of water....and since mescaline is a defense mechanism, it might have a low mescaline content. i never use ordered cuttings for consumtion, i grow then to a desired hieght and begin to starve them to increase alkaloid content...before harvest.
