Would this work in viewing events in the past?
    #28615769 - 01/09/24 09:50 PM (4 months, 6 days ago)

Imagine there was a planet or a moon 2000 light years away, and we somehow develop the technology to get a giant telescope to that 2000 light year away planet or moon and point it at the earth, reford whatever it sees on earth, send it back to present day earth, could this in theory help us look back into the past and see the Roman empire and the crucifixion of christ and other events 2000 years ago?

If the light from the sun takes 8 minutes to reach earth were looking at the sun o ly just 8 minutes ago even with a telescope on earth, why wouldn't it be any different from putting a giant advanced telescope on a planet 2000 light years from earth to see what happened 2000 years ago?

The obvious problem is that you can't get the telescope up there instantly; it'll travel at the speed of light in the most optimistic (and totally unrealistic, of course) scenario. Then if it's up there, radio messages will also travel at the speed of light at best.

So, basically, LOLWUT NO, haha.

The biggest problems would be the time to travel to that planet and set-up a telescope. By the time that telescope had been set-up, so much time (and light coming from Earth) would have past, you wouldn't be able to see into the past. Plus, a telescope that huge would probably be the size of a planet, since 2000 light years is Very Far.

But if you could travel faster than light within the same space, could you see into the past by bending space-time to the extreme right here on Earth?
