 Awesome Music for Meditation?

What is considered some of the most incrediblue stuff to listen to on a journey? I'm looking for some awesome reccomendations. Preferebly something out of this world or something with Eastern religion. I really don't know anything about chanting or certain rhythms. I do feel the beat. Have any of you heard any music in particular that has blown your mind?

Ravi Shankar.....some of the beatles more eastern influenced stuff is nice, espcecially the george harrison tunes....within you without you, the inner light, and tomorrow never knows (which is a lennon tune). I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for, these kind of assume you're looking for eastern influenced music.

I remember listneing to that on 7 grams , just sitting there with my eyes closed , feeling the breath move in...and then out of me , while a whole universe opened up inside 
Plus another cool thing was after I turned off the music and got high(cannabis), I went upstairs to make some food , and all I could hear was that music, so soft and peacefull. 
Other then that, I would say instrumental jazz(low meandering jazz, not the upbeat stuff)
the most important thing about meditating is actually DOING IT, its gets easier over time.

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol 2
Pretty much an album of atmospherics. Perfect for meditation as most of the tunes have little or no recognisable melody making it much easier to "get lost" in the music if you know what I mean.

Should be able to find a ton of different sound files on just about any p2p..these excercises were created to help listeners induce anything from astral projection to lucid dreams to simple concentration/relaxation. Good stuff

I second the Hemi-Sync recommendation. I've had some incredible experiences (Full Out of Body) using their Trancendence recording.

Thanks for the reccondations. I intend to hunt some of this stuff down. I had a great trip recently. Basicly if I had to sume it up, it felt like i was being thrown back in time. I went back through my life then through the big bang. Some of the great musical moments I will keep are hearing warren zevon - back in the high life again, prince - raspberry beret. I also listened to a lot of Ravi Shankar, having not heard very much of him at all.
Some bands I've been listening to a lot of are Kings of Leon, Wilco, Bob Dylan live from Bonnaroo, Pink Floyd, Lou Reed - Animal Serenade, Randy Newman. I also am writing a book that I intend to pursue having published. Most likely I will self publish it. Anyone here done anything like that before? I did work in self publishing books, working with authors who published. My work is kind of like songwriting. Maybe someday one of you will run into it. Who knows where this music is going.
