I've found that my religion is "Ineffable", in that there are no words or theology to describe all of existance. Of course, there's nothing wrong with discussing ideas and philsophy. But to ascribe existance to a term seems limiting IMHO.
I'm probably a census takers nightmare.
-------------------- The very nature of experience is ineffable; it transcends cognitive thought and intellectualized analysis. To be without experience is to be without an emotional knowledge of what the experience translates into. The desire for the understanding of what life is made of is the motivation that drives us all. Without it, in fear of the experiences what life can hold is among the greatest contradictions; to live in fear of death while not being alive.

well, i was brought up going to a baptist church every sunday till i was abot thirteen, then i started thinking for myself....my church did not like the way i was acting or the questions i would ask at church, "how dare you mock god" so i left the church and have been on my own spiritual path since...i am part of no "religion".

Add my name to the "none" pile.
I don't subscribe to any packaged, fabricated nonsense!
I'd rather admit that I am mostly ignorant and still searching then join a club that pretends to have the answers.

(edit) My life was absorbed by religion for 18 years by my parents. I wasn't allowed to read anything but "Christian" novels or listen to anything but "Christian" music. If they found a fantasy book, they would throw it away. I didn't even know who Pink Floyd was until after I moved out of the damn house. My parents wouldn't let me have black friends either, since they told me that the Bible said that I should "stick to my own kind." I wasn't allowed to wear pants to school until high school, because they aren't ladylike, and the Bible was an excuse for that too. I didn't know what sex was until I was at least 16 years old, because my parents never told me about it. When I was going through some shit in high school, I was taken to a priest who said I was demon possessed and the entire fucking congregation did "lay on hands" on me. For years I thought that they were right. And all that's not even the half of it. If I say I hate "religion," I have a good fucking reason to say that. I LIVED the extreme religious lifestyle for most of my life, and it was only until leaving that situation that I realized that there were other ways of thinking. I don't give a fuck if anyone wants to be a fundie Christian like my parents are, hell, my relationship is better then ever with my parents. Even though they send missionaries to try and convert me at my apartment over 200 miles away from where they live, witness tracks in the mail, and said that they won't support me if I persue Philosophy in college (a true Christian doesn't need Philosopy, they said) I still love my parents more then anything. I just don't agree with how I was raised, so sheltered and oppressed in that household. Every night when I was a little girl, I remember them telling me how I was going to burn in hell and be tortured if I didn't accept Jesus. I remember how my parents would smile and be the "happy family" at church, but at home I would be ignored and slapped around. If I ever tried to argue religion, my mouth would be washed out with soap. Even after all of that, I love my parents more then anything. It's the religion I hate, because they used religion as a basis or "excuse" for all their actions, no matter what they were. They still do this. I've come face to face with religious fanaticism, and want nothing to do with it. A question was asked in this thread, "What religion are you?" and I gave an honest answer. It wasn't an effort to be "edgy" or a "rebel," it was spoken from my heart, from the heat of a religious battle that I've endured through most of my life, first with my parents, and then myself. Nobody can ever say that I haven't experienced the "religious" phenomenon, because fuck, I was embroiled in it. It's taken me years to try and "get over" the experiences I've had because of religion, and I can honestly say with all the red passion in my breast that I HATE IT. So this is long, but I wanted to state where I stand, and to clear up any "confusion" about why I posted what I did. *me*

Great response Ellemy!
Your story is a perfect example of how religion can be like a disease that locks your mind and spirit within the most limited, controlled space possible.
Anything that robs you of your freedom to choose and your freedom to explore life and question everything is worthy of anyone's truest hatred. At least, those who are able to escape it, and my commendations to you for being in the deepest pits of bullshit and somehow finding your way out.
I was never subjected to religion in the way that you were, yet through growing up and observing what it has done to people close to me, and people all around the world, I can also say that religion is the curse of the planet.
We don't need no thought control
Some people justify religion in that "Religion teaches good lessons and morals." And this makes it OK. Well, at its festering, evil core, religion remains what it was created to be... an effective way of keeping the ignorant masses in good condition to be USED and raped and disposed of.
Aside from that, peace and love to all!
