Too Late To Harvest?

Okay I have 2 cakes and a couple mushrooms are ready to harvest. There are still alot of mushrooms growing though. The problem is I dont have any dessicant to dry the shrooms with. If I leave to fully developed shrooms attached to the cake will it still be okay to eat whenever the other shrooms are done growing?

They will not keep on the cake.
If you have a fan, put them in front of the fan for a day or 2, that will get them leathery dry.
You need dessicant to finish them off and get them dry enough that they will keep, but a few days in the fridge will be ok until you can get down the shops.

After 24hrs or so after the veil breaks, things are going to be going to be going down hill, fast.
Pick the big'uns and stick them in the fridge. Should be good for about a week, more than enough time for the others to catch up, any longer than that you want to dry them.

but who says you need them cracker dry? i've only used dessicant once. They just get too fragile for me when they're that dry.

Depends on you local environment, here in green an pleasant England (its green for a reason ), fan's don't quite cut it. Almost, I grant you.
Fan drying is recomended, even if you intend if fridge them.

So Epsom Salt is a dessicant? Shit I wish I would have known this along time ago. I live in a very small community and I was going to have to order the dessicant off Myco Supply.com. So Epsom Salt will work like a dessicant?

Never tired epsom, but regular old damp-rid works wonders if you use it in the correct system, and its reusable.
Get a styrofoam cooler, lift a corner with something, make a small drip-hole in the opposite corner. Dump damprid into the cooler, add a wire mesh, add fresh shroomies. Add a 4-6 inch fan, and close her up.
The dessicant will suck the water right out of the mushrooms, helped immensly by the air circulation. The drain hole is meant to evacuate the liquid dessicant, once it turns to soup its not gonna do any more water sucking. Keep a container under the drain hole, and collect the liquid "used" dessicant.
Now, instead of running to the store to buy more dessicant, get the dessicant soup you have, put it in aluminum tray, then put it on a pan on the stove, high heat. Wait a while, all the water will boil off, and your dessicant will have reappeared in the form of a solid dessi-brick. turn the aluminum tray upside down, bang it up, and reintroduce dessi-chips to your drying cooler.
I haven?t bought new dessicant for months, its good to be autonomous.
P.S. I cut a hole in the top of my cooler and added a glass pane, so as to be able to check in on my beauties without opening the cooler up.
P.P.S. I live in a super humid environment, my vicks cool mist tank lasts forever, but I can?t use open air fanning to dry my babies.

I have never tried it, but Domey and Hallucinogen swear by it working. I would bake it first to dry it out.
If possible get a food dehydrator, much easier.
Also, if you fan dry, but only dry a bit and plan on consuming before they are entirely dry, record the fresh weight for small group of them and split it up, otherwise you want be able to dose what you are eating

I would assume baking damprid to dryness would take many, many, many hours. On the stove it takes less than one.
I initially thought the heat might change the comp of the dessicant, but after some testing, I came to the conclusion that damp rid doesn?t seem to care how hot it gets.

All you need is a fan and epsom salt, and you all set. What I do is fan the shrooms for 1 day/overnight and then after baking the epsom salt at 400-450 degrees I put it in a box, with mesh wire place the shrooms, close the box, leave it alone for 1/2 days and the shrooms turn into crackers.
