My friend ate around 1.5 g. of shrooms last week and during the trip, he had to hold his eyelids open in order not to fall asleep. He heard somewhere that tryptophan can induce sleep in some people. Is there anything he can take to keep him awake during his trip or stop tryptophan from doing its job? Or is it a lost cause?

many aztec preperations presented mushrooms with (or in) a chocolate-based beverage (often with many other herbs added as well)(see the "prince of flowers" decoded in wasson's _the wondrous mushroom: mycolatry in mesoamerica_ )

low doses of shrooms (or ayahuasca) can often float ya right off to dreamland (as in "nighty-nite")

so....
mexican style cocoa (spicy hot with herbs & no sugar)
american/european style cocoa (milk-based & sweetened)
hot or iced tea
mate (Ilex paraguayensis)
mate de coca (Erythoxylon coca)
guarana
nootropic herbs (ginseng, ginkgo, gotukola) or nootropic chemicals (piracetam, dmae)
stimulant herbs (ephedra, celastrus, qat, coffee)
tyrosine or phenylalanine (dietary amino acids)

1.75 mg D-desoxyephedrine HCl (per os, sniffed, or smoked)(important: amps not generally recommended, but in the _milligram_ range, meth or dex can be useful tools...)

i'm sure there are other ways of staying awake, eh?

He took some ginko and echinacea 2 hours before the trip and also ate the shrooms covered in chocolate. I guess he should give a few "nodoz" a try...
