The Dead's Show
    #2775291 - 06/08/04 04:04 PM (19 years, 9 months ago)

Today i watched a video of the Grateful Dead playing in like 93 or so...i love the music but the actual show is crap...i just wanted to know what the Dead's show is like and who has (tried) replace Jerry...i think its Warren Haynes and i just dont see how this guy could fit in with the rest of the group...i mean he is fat and has sorta nasty hair like jerry but his style and everything is totally diffrent from the Dead...i mean he is so much harder if you know what im trying to say...i know the Dead concert will be alot of fun, but is it really worth actually watching the guys?

totally worth it imo....they do sound a lot different now, but I think you will enjoy it. I saw them with Jimmy Herring last year, who has a similar style to W.Haynes and they were absolutely fabulous. Very dynamic, creative and vibrant. A guaranteed amazing show! I am so excited to see them in less than 2 weeks! I am going to catch 4 shows this summer, but wish it were more....I hope I talked you into going.

I might be catching them at darien lake, and SPAC, but beyond that I probably wont catch them....phish has announced this is their last tour, so most of my free time/funding is concentrated towards hitting brooklyn/spac/coventry, haha. Dont get me wrong though, the dead is still definitely worth catching, I do recomend it.

The Dead are coming end of the month to SLC.
I am very excited that Haynes is jamming with The Dead, but then i am
also a very big fan of the Allman Brothers. And they are not coming
to Salt Lake this year.  :frown:

Warren isn't really fat, and his hair is usually combed nicely.
He actually has reinvented himself for several bands, he isn't all that raw in the Dead. If you I'm sure you'll be surpised if you go and be sure an take lots of acid you sound like you need it.

Ive never seen a dead show but want to before I die...they are a little before my time and they never come down to Florida but I will end of seeing them eventuallly. The only thin that concerns me is the comment that was made my Adom saying "make sure you eat alot of acid". This is not the first time somebody has suggested to definaltey eat acid while at a dead show. Now Ive eaten acid 5 times for a total of 6 hits and 3 of those times were at concerts-rave-festival and dont get me wrong anything sounds tight and everything is fun while trippin...I could be bangin on pots and pans and it will still sound good. So , is acid really hugely important-necessary while going to see one of these shows? Has anybody here ever gone sober? I just dont like people sayin, "make sure you get fucked up" almost conitating it wont be worth it unless you trippin.

Dude, I posted that in a bad mood, glad not many read my first response before I edited.  I said the acid bit because it upset me that sliff said that Warren fit the bill cause he was fat and had his hair long and since acid has the ability to shock one into seeing the world alittle better(IMO) I thought it was a nice smart ass remark.
And slifftoter sorry for that nasty post, it was lame and I posted in a bad mood(no excuse).  You should go and enjoy yourself man, it will be a great time, I promise, I've seen them a few times and always had fun.  I was sober for many of those occasions, tho tripping is always fun, I like mild trips for shows tho, it doesn't take much in those enviroments for me and if I was to far gone I'd end up picking blades of grass for 3 hours and be in a state someone would have to be taking care of me or I'd be completely lost.  Be safe and have fun  :sun:

It was wrong of me to say the fat and hairy thing too my bad it was really disrespectful. It wasnt the mans fault that he couldnt deal with his fame, its a shame that he is gone. I totally accept your apologie, but i think i owe all the Deadheads one for saying that stuff.

I've heard before the remarks about him not being able to deal with fame but I think he did ok. He was pretty excessive in everything he did and that took a toll on his health but one of his excessives was life, ya know? He lived more than most people.

Besides, he died in a rehab. The only drug he was on when he died was coffee.

Watched them for my first time at this summers Bonnaroo. It was amazing on of the best concerts of the event. WH played for jerry and a great new twist was added to the old stuff. They were full of energy and kept the crowd going through the heavy rains. Hope you get to see them

Just saw The Dead last night..
God what a great experience. The show, the people, it was just a
really great vibe!
This was my first Dead show, I have only been a fan for a couple of
years (since i took up the guitar i have really broadened my musical
tastes)  But damn that was a kick ass show.
If you are a fan you have to see this tour.

Also Warren Haynes was great... I thought it was a very cool mix....
And the light show WOW!! :tripping:
