Coffee and grain
    #2772047 - 06/07/04 02:54 PM (19 years, 10 months ago)

3 Questions, more or less directed at hippie3 cause he has done so much with coffee

Does one soak the grain in coffee water or simmer with it?
Can you just toss in some coffee beans along with some WBS before pressure cooking?
Lastly, has anybody tried growing with straight coffee beans?

Thnx in advance

i don't know..... your going to most likely have to read up on mycotopia.net for this one.

I'm wanting to experiment with it, since I don't think anyone knows why it seems to work better.

I do both. soak and simmer with it. but I'm giving up on coffee for now. I've been getting quite a bit of sour rot, when using coffee+WBS. still not sure if it's the coffee, or the WBS, but for now, I'm going to hold off on the coffee, and stay more traditional.

oh yeah...i'll admit, i didn't read thoroughly though the coffee discussion, so I may have used too strong of a coffee concentration. But my guess is that after PCing, it wouldnt matter. I just don't have the time to sit around and lose jars right now.

over a year ago I did a coffee tek involving several different methods, I had a couple of controls one being straight ground unbrewed coffee... unfortunatly the ground coffee loses moisture far to quickly to be used as a substrate...

I had 100% colonization with unbrewed ground coffee and grains about a 60/40 mix grains being the dominant portion, fruiting has been unsucsessful, I still have the substrate and will eventualy make an attempt to revive and fruit it.

Spent coffee grounds would be a great deal more suitable for use because
