not airtight rubbermaid help
    #2765649 - 06/05/04 07:09 AM (19 years, 9 months ago)

i do not have a hygrometer, or money to buy one. I dont have money to buy another rubbermaid for my fruit chamber either. I suspect my slow mushroom growth is due to low humidity and the rubbermaid not being airtight. Is there something i can do to the rubbermaid, like add some sort of insulator around the lid but also have the lid able to come off with the seal so i dont need to put it on every time I fan?

you could try putting tape on the rim of the tub for a tighter fit. if not use some saran wrap type stuff over the tub before putting the lid on.

They sell window/door sealer at Home Depot/Lowes/Wal Mart... It is a strip of foam with sticky tape on one side of it. I would give that a try.

sheet of plastic does the job.

my rubbermaid has a lid that folds in two so obviously isnt sealed ive actually stopped using my plastic sheet to seal it as i find the humidity is good with just the lid i think the air circulating actually helps the walls sweat water into the air. all i use is the clay stones in water and a bowl with a water heater in it. works a treat just pulled a couple 7 - 8 inchers from one of my casing.

I put a layer of Glad cling wrap on top of mine and then put the lid on. I think my humidity is to high now, but my mushrooms grow very very fast.

I need something for my fruit chamber for a lid. I was thinking about buying plexiglass. How much do u think that would cost and would that be airtight?
