Pictures - Assorted mushsrooms on a horse dung compose pile
    #2761737 - 06/03/04 10:07 PM (19 years, 10 months ago)

(I assume that all of these are non-active?)

There is a large horse farm down a road in the north suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia that is being torn up. Huge piles of horse manure and wood chip compost lined the side of this road. Here are some pictures after a rain earlier this week. Any help with IDs is appreciated, but not expected! I hope you like my pictures ~ I sure enjoyed the opportunity to take them.

I?ll take a stab at my first guess of an ID... any chance that the ones in the bottom right of the above photo, and featured in a few photos above it, are Panaeolus sphinctrinus ? The spore print was black!

The spore print for the mushrooms in the left-hand corner of that picture were similarly brown as of Conocybe coprophila pictured here.

I've seen mushrooms like those in the 2nd pic in rotting hay before as well- crowded orange-red-rust gills, fragile, and easily dried. To me, they match the Lincoff pic of psathyrella conissans (red-gilled), but the season and habitat are wrong. Maybe Bolbitus vitellinus- grows in composting straw in the spring and fall and has rust-ochre print. Nice pics!

WEll I have never heard of Concoycbe coprophila, Psilocybe coprophila, yes.

While there is a Conocybe species in Dung, I do not believe it is called Conocybe coprophila. Furthermore, I found this int he Yahoo search engine:

I did not give those photos to the shroomery and my name is on there as such in this url for the photos posted at the shroomery.

Those are not my photographs.

I did n donate a photograph of Conocybe filaris, but that species does not grow in manure and it is deadly. IT s habitat is woodchips.
