Datura?
    #2756361 - 06/02/04 10:06 AM (19 years, 9 months ago)

I have recently been on a shopping spree with the Shroomery's sponcers. I purchased a Datura Metel plant and did my homework on reading up on it's effects and their shamanic usages in Mexico and the American Southwest. However, before I would think to ingest an unlnown plant, or any part of it, I would like to know about any personal experiences anybody has had with it. I don't want to get off for a week or longer by accident like some acquaintences of mine did when they ODed on Brugmansia Aurea (angel's trumpet). They were messed up for almost 2 months. That's not what I want. So if anyone has any personal experience with Datura let me know.
Thanks.

Last trip report about datura was a guy who found his brother unconscious and laid in the street beside a police car with no trousers and one shoe on.

He had pissed himself.

Don't sound too promising so far. If this is what the trip reports for Datura are gonna be like, I'll just keep it as an ornamental plant. Thanks for the warning.

Datura is a Deliriant, it will make you fucking crazy rather than lead you down a road of nice warm visuals. Ingesting Datura makes you think like a schizophrenic, or so I've heard.

On the good side, you sit smoking non-existent cigarettes for hours.

Might be pretty cool...

I've heard a story of a guy who cut off his penis because he thought it was trying to kill him while on datura... that's enough on it's own for me not to want to try it.

Oddly enough, that's a very common effect for people who try to trip off tropanes, even people that don't smoke.

Wow, thats pretty creepy. As I was reading something on datura this morning, one of the guys pointed out that he didnt go to the bathroom once while he was tripping over a period of days.

I say, Rather than do datura, you should probably smoke alot of pot and read 5-10 trip reports...  alot more fun... easier to enjoy the trippiness of the drug on this end..

Well I hope that it makes a beautiful ornamental tree, cause I certainly ain't eatin' any of that shit.
Any insights on some of the other plants I bought:
Heimia Salicifolia
Leonotis Leonurus
Ilex Paraguatensis
Piper Betel
Hyoscyamus Albus
I bought them just for the fun of growing them and if it wouldn't kill me I would try them. I'm really re-concidering that thought.

I don't know anything about botany, but I'm assuming Hyoscyamus Albus contains high levels of hyoscyamine (sp?). If it contains less scopolamine and atropine,it could produce a "cleaner" trip than Datura. All the tropanes have different muscarnic acetylcholine binding profiles to the differnt sub receptors.

You should read the part about the tropanes in The Golden Guide to Hallucinogenic Plants . You can find it on Erowid.

If only you could isolate the compound responsible for making you believe you were smoking cigarettes...You'd put the tobacco companies out of business.

They have isolated that compound,it's used in medicine and it's called scopolamine. However, along with imaginery ciggarettes comes all the other hallucinations.
