Electronic Timer, 8 programs?
    #2754399 - 06/01/04 07:20 PM (19 years, 9 months ago)

I bought an electric timer that only has 8 on/off cycles. It switches on 8 times, and off 8 times.

Well, im using a holmes ultrasinic humidifier. My terranium is a coleman chest cooler, so it keeps humidity in probably as good as anything could. What shoud i set my cycles for? i have it set for 1 1/2 on and 1 1/2 off so it will make the full 24hours, but i think it shouldnt be on for that long.

Im planning on having it run every hour and a half, should i have it go on say 15min?

Im using uncased cakes and the timer can go in 1 minute increments

an ultrasonic for a coleman cooler? I think you'll have prolems obtaining the correct humidity. Your humidity probably won't need to be "refreshed" much. i wouldnt let it run for 15 minutes, even on the lowest setting. maybe more like 2 minutes every 12 hours. but play around with different settings, until you get the correct readings on your humidity guage. you DO have a humidity guage, right? The ultrasonics wont provide much air exchange, unless you tweak the circuit a bit.

Yes, i know it wont provide much air exchange. I was going to attempt the resistor before the pot, but decided the timer was a better option as the humidifier would not be running 24/7.

Im not worried about air exchange, i will be looking into the chest every other day at least. Besides, the 10min its on every 8 hours should still give it some good air.

i do not have a humidity guage yet. Most dont read accurately anyway. Any reccomendations on a good digi hygrometer?

Anything that isnt in the terrarium its self will work.. Like the kinds with a senser on a wire.. Iv ruined many shitty electronic ones that just sit in the humidity..

heh, ive always figured that if you have a electronic device inside a 90% humidity enviroment it would eventually fail.

Well, i really like the look of this one i bought.  Remote wireless sensor, can recieve signal up to 100ft away.  can also add two more sensors, so i can read temp and humididty int he terranium and outside, sweet.

check it out, its $30 shipped from amazon right now!
