Shoebox Contamination?

**I posted this in the contamination sticky but I think I'll get better results making my own post**
I made two new shoeboxes completely identical on 6/6 & looks like one is contaminated... each box has 4 BRF jars, 1:2 CVG.
My own home made MSS. While shredding to bulk all 8 jars are looked fine and smelled good.
Both boxes side by side.
This one looks normal.
Maybe the start of trich? Or is it just colonizing at a faster rate? Should I toss just in case?

Yes they’re contaminated… toss them and start again. Next time fruit cakes as cakes unless you made them with a clean LC. Almost, if not every, ms syringe is gonna be a little dirty..they’ll never be 100% clean. So say if your cake(s) were a little bacterial and you crumble that to bulk the bacteria is gonna take over your grow before the myc will. A bacterial cake can still fruit but not if it’s crumbled to bulk. Fruit cakes as cakes imo. Don’t noc up grains with a ms syringe. Put a drop to agar, make xfr’s until clean, inoculate. When you say “my own mss” that makes me think you made your own multi spore syringe…if that’s the case then the mfr is dirty as shit and there’s no way around it,, you have to use agar first. I mean maybe you’ll get a shroom or two but why not do it right and get wall to wall flushes..??
Good luck dude ✌️

Thanks for the response B21.
However your comment about fruit cakes as cakes is your opinion. This is not a hard fact and some of us like doing shoeboxes.
But you're right about everything else. I agree that my home made multisport syringes can be dirty but I've had a lot of success doing it this way. See below. This is the first out of 12 shoeboxes I've done that's had a contamination (which I'm not even 100% sure it's contaminated, but probably is ).
For now inoculating PF Tek 1/2 pint BRF jars & shredding to bulk works for me. But as you mentioned my next step is doing agar & grains. I prefer taking baby steps is all.
I'll post an update of the shoeboxes if failure or successful.

I bet B21 has nothing against shoeboxes. He`s totally right with fruiting bacterial spawn as how they are without crumbling and mixing them. That`s why bacterial bags can produce fruiting in the bag as a cake. BRF is a master in handling bacteria, but spawned to bulk things will go bad.
So you`re on the right track with moving to agar mate

Hence the “imo” (in my opinion).. I do stand firm against it tho…like why risk crumbling a multispore cake when you can have guaranteed clean spawn via agar to grain. I like shoeboxes but my eyes like to see BIG tubs of shrooms.. all my opinion tho. (When I make a shoebox I use 1 at of clean spawn). I’ll always like cakes tho.. ✌️ Good luck my friends

Quick update and I will close this thread.
The funky shoebox is definitely contaminated. It went full on thick fuzzy white. Now... it is showing some brown coloring on the top... not green. Also does not smell like mushrooms. More like cotton balls or something I can't put my finger on. I left it outside during this time so I wouldn't further contaminate my grow area.
Surprisingly the two other shoeboxes are doing great! Should be ready to pick within the next couple days.
Thanks for the input gentlemen! I really appreciate it. Been researching agar & grains due to this little hiccup.

Sound like it got a yeast infection. Good the others made it
Maybe one last tip: Take a smell from the jars before you spawn them. If you distribute the spawn, the mushroom smell will always take overhand in my experience, unless it`s a very bad contam. But it`s not a warranty, some contams don`t smell at all.

Well here's the contaminated boxes. Leaving it outside for scientific purposes.
Very happy this contamination did not spread to the other shoeboxes... at least not yet. So far so good.
This is the four 1/2 pint BRF B+ shoebox.
