why pasteurize poo/straw for outdoor beds?
    #2658702 - 05/09/04 11:40 PM (19 years, 10 months ago)

well? I am very curious as to what the benefits are if you pasteurize your poo and straw for outdoor beds and what the disadvantage would be if you did not. Wouldnt it work all the same if you simply just soaked your hay or straw? and wouldnt it be the same if you used leached poo? why must you pasteurize it if it is outdoors, i thought contams were not an issue outside?

so can someone please shed some light on why i am told to pasteurize my poo and straw for an outdoor bed? what is the big difference?

thank you everyone

It is done to reduce populations of competitor fungi. Disadvantages would be mushrooms you don't want growing instead of the ones you spawn with.
