"Das Boot" is a great movie. I saw the subtitled version about 3 years ago. I dunno whether there's an english dubbed version or not. Being an american, and bombarded with the same old story of WWII in history classes, books, and our own movies, I found it very interesting to see a movie from a different perspective.

There's another good movie set in WWII (but not dwelling on the actual war) called "Hell on the Pacific". It's an american film about two military men (one japanese, one american) that are marooned on a deserted island. I've only seen it once, on some obscure tv station at like 4am. The characters' behavior is truely, honestly, believable. So much so, that their actions and decisions seemed to say something about my own character. There isn't a whole lot of dialogue, since the two men don't really understand each other's language. As a result, the dialogue that IS there carries a lot of power, and the quiet time gives your brain room to think about what you've learned so far, and to develop feelings about it.

I won't give any more away. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm gonna see if I can find it in a video store tonight.
