almost every day i pray to my personal god... i call him/her either pelor, helios, ra, life or solaris. I usually visualize him as a blazing sun with a wize bearded face. i pray to him for a continuation of life on earth, and for nucleur disarmament, and peace among men, and to give thanks for good weather, and to help me be more mellow and loving...
am i nuts?

whether you are serious or not, if a person did what you say you do, then no they are not nuts anymore than the people who call him "god". It doesnt matter what you call him. and you obviously pray for things out of love, so that is great and they will be answered all the same.

Watching the escalating world-wide violence, I think your prayers are just irritating him.

I agree. Very noble intentions. I am working towards a more peaceful earth. Hopefully my organization will get our non-profit license from the state of kansas this summer!

Yes, more people taking no action is a real catalyst for change.
Petitioning, voting, writing articles, donating time to the cause or party of your choice - these things might have positive effect, but take more committment than mumbling to one's self in the dark.

Well, by the sounds of it, he has an organization, and will hopefully be getting a non-profit organization license.
SpecialEd, what kind of organization do you have? What are you involved with? I'm interested.
Peace.

Pharmakos, honestly, I think that doing what your doing is pretty pointless. Maybe even worthless. It's certainly not something I would bother doing.
Notice how everybody wants meaningful "spiritual" rituals to perform? People affect "spirituality" and go out of their way to introduce "meaningful" rituals into their lives, but the people performing these often don't notice the rituals inherent in their unaffected reality. Why don't you get up in the morning and eat breakfast out on your lawn with bare feet and chew your food really well? There's a much better ritual than praying to some stupid god you wish you had. Be sincere. I'm not questioning how sincerely you want world peace, but the whole prayer thing you're doing is just a bullshit front you put up.
This is all there is!

Good for you and that pagan waste of time. Pagans are so old on Earth. Just people who can not find them selfs with the Source of all life.

Some of you people do not know much about God. That makes me sad. Why can not we say it created all of us? We worship the same God... God has no image...

"am i nuts?" No, you're not nuts for praying to the higher power, or to our Creator. Humans have done this for centuries. However, you may need to realize that those certain philanthropic prayers of global-altruism may lead you to disappointment; because for absolute world peace to exist, everybody would have to come to the same prayer or congruence, and adhere to it in fidelity--for as long as possible. There is nothing unadmirable of one praying for extrinsic and global events as aforementioned, of course. I advocate philanthropy in the love of mankind; I support tithing is well; that is, to give first 10% of the income to charity. Sometimes it'll be a poor bum on the curb of the highway, sometimes it'll be towards the Humane Society, and so on. What is important to understand, is that to avoid embitterment after years of unrewarded prayer, it would be wise to acknowledge that internal-investments would yield the highest returns, so to speak. The intrinsic power and inner harmony is what you have control over, via prayer, mental meditation, positive self-talk/programming, psychological guidance, education and so forth; hence, it would be wise to expend your emotional-reserves on what you do control, rather than what you cannot control.

I am involved in an organization that specializes in renewable energies. Our goal is to get people and businesses off of the power grid and take the money out of energy used for electricity and transportation.
Imagine What if the world were powered on renewable fuels that are clean for the environment, free or inexpensive to the individual, and completely sustainable?
What if homes businesses and transportation could all be independently powered by these renewable energy sources?
What if the parts for the equipment necessary are inexpensively made of recycled materials, are easily mass produced, and could reach every corner of the globe?
What if this was done not for profit but for Peace?
Could the entire world undergo a revolutionary change?
Could electricity suddenly become available to every person on Earth?
Could clean water be made available? Hospitals? Education facilities? Public works and safety needs met? What other markets become economically viable in places never before possible?
Are the infinite possibilities worth the effort that everyone must face to change the world, to make our Earth a better place?

good stuff good stuff first of all i dont 'believe' this god exists in any objective sense. However i find that it is usefull to use a visualized receptacle for these thoughts. That is, by praying to god in thanks for the blessings i experience, i am just affirming them to myself, but the end result is the same... more satisfaction and happiness.
This is only one of many spiritual experiences i enjoy, and i do alot of things along the lines of 'sitting in the lawn in the sun chewing your food' or whatever... i certainly dont believe my prayer will result in any of the things that i wish for, but it keeps the problems and possibilities of the world in mind.
FOr example everytime i see a military plane fly overhead i think 'that plane could drop a bomb and kill us all right now' and then i pray for peace on earth, and nucleur disarmament, and also in thanks for the fact that today i wasnt wiped out by some crazy chance. This reminds me that the existance of that plane and its explosive cargo are wrong, and it is up to me to change it...
just trying to stimulate some discussion though... pelor, helios ra to me there just symbols of life itself (thats why one of the names i use is simply 'life') when i give thanks to my sun man i give thanks to the world... i dunno

yes it is like in the new testament I forget one of the apostles said pray constantly. I think prayer reflects your state of mind and the energy you direct back at the world. I think he did not mean bow your head closes your eyes, rather, constantly be in the state of mind of love and peace and understanding.
