comparison of azurescens and cyanescens

Now that ive scanned the extra pics that i took, i have revamped this old post. Basically the azurescens below were spawned on grassseed and flour, colonised alder and beech chips were buried below a one inch layer of pine bark and native australian wood mulch. The mycelia was so vigourous that it stuck another on inch layer of leaves over the top that acted as a decomposing casing layer. Some of the azures here are fruiting directly off pine bark alone like subaeruginosa.
and picked:
The cyanescens were less interested in fruiting off anything other than the native hardwoods - alder and beech chips. And they would die back due to the heat of the australian summer:
and picked:
When compared to wavy-capped subaeruginosa, the similarities are profound:
The main differences are that subs have an inrolled margin, whereas cyanescens have a thicker more defined margin, subs have a grey-flecked stem, whereas cyanescens is pure white, and subaeruginosa has a darker inky blue staining, whereas cyanescens and azurescens stain a lighter dark, that turns blackish blue with time.
I would conclude that this azurescens would be quite open to naturalisation in Victoria, Australia, the cyanescens, despite its similarity to wavy subearuginosa less so due to its poor tolerance of the weather variations and its inability to spread or fruit off native australian woods.
Spawning was as thus:
A good look at all three species:
and a nice big arse for your troubles...

Those are youn imature azures.
Here is a picture from Hammond, Oregon three years ago.
The bottom shrooms are similar to those grown outdoors by Blue Meanie.
His mushrooms are difinitely P. azurescens as he says they are. The ones Gartz grew from me in Germany looked l slightley differnet in drying colors and in the open shaped of the caps.

They did look a little different to what i expected - but quite similar to the pics there by MJ and available cultivated by sporeworks on their site. As MJ says they are not very mature when picked - the lsugs seemed too interested for me to trust so i cut my losses and picked them. Thanks MJ. You know Im planning to try and find som of those semis up in the victorian high country this year, and look forward to trying them again. I havent since i was about 15 in New Zealand.
