Frustration Levels Running High. But that's all that's high!
    #2518271 - 04/02/04 08:27 AM (19 years, 11 months ago)

I've been growing 'shrooms using a kit. You know the one? The little tupperware box with everything already there? This is my third time. The first two went easily enough. No worries. Good crop. Good tripping. But this one I have going (sic) at the moment is causing me some serious aggravation. After around two months the white cotton wool like stuff appeared. I put the lenghly start down too the fact that it's Winter time. A bit chilly. So they started. I had two come up. They went too about 1 1/2 inches then aborted. Fair enough I thought. No worries. Then another few started too rise. And again were cruelly stopped in their growth!?! Now it's been, what? Since December at least? So that's well long enough too have got at least two crops. But as yet nothing!?! I've not done anything different from what I had done before. I may have touched the contents but I'm sure my hands were clean. So my question is are there any tips too start the process running at full steam?

Well if there isn't any evident contamination, it's likely just the strain.

My advice: Switch it up. If you haven't had anything since december, i don't think your gonna get anything.

P.S. the fluffy stuff is mycilium. Cobwebs look like cobwebs... wispy and shit.

I refuse too simply kick it to the kerb. There must be a way too stir it up a bit. It still has the myc stuff covering the top. Not as much as the others. But it's from the same supplier so I dont doubt the strain. Frustating as fuck as I've been waiting this long for sweet fuck all.

Well if it's not bluing it still has some moisture in it... and thus potential. Don't hold your breath though

Can you give us growth parameters (Rh, temperature, lightning, air exchanges) ?

I must confess too being quite embarrased about the set up. The kit sits inside a bucket which is wrapped in bubble pop wrap for insulation. Witha little water at the bottom it builds up a good bit of condesation(sp?). At night it sits on the back of my fridge where the motor keeps a constant temp. Through the day it sits in front of my window in the sun.0 I give it a breeze with a book twice a dfzay to stir the co2. What's went funky in 'shroom town?

That casing is bit old and maybe a bit weak but maybe you should try a cold shock. To do this, you should grab the tupperware, wrap it with some saran wrap, put it inside a plastic bag and put it inside the refrigerator for 18-24 hours, then put the casing inside your terrarium again as it was before, mist it very well and wait. Try to be as clean as possible.
Also buy a thermometer and keep track of the temperature, 25?C is optimal. Open your terrarium 3 or 4 times a day mist if necessary and fan, lightning 24/7 is also ok.

You may well have hit the nail spot on the proverbial there with the water tip. That was something that I've wanted too know for a while now. Is it ok to moisten the kit again? I've asked the same question before but I'm not sure if I recieved an affrimative reply. Or maybe my question was none too clear. Possible. The cold shock I like the idea of. If only for the fact that Bucket-Gate (tm) has been going on for sometime in my abode and no-ones been talking. Now it's pay back time. Into the cold you go my lovelies!
Is that safe enough? I do apologies for these no doubt very elementry seeming questions. But is this something that you yourself have tried and tested with good results before this? If so I shall for sure give it a try. I'm going to spray/mist the kit again. It does too be honest look a little parched.

It's ok to moisten the kit whenever it looks dry but you should be careful and don't waterlog the casing.
You normally know it needs more water when there is a gap between the tupperware and the substrate.
Misting is needed to maintain a stable Rh and promote pinning. Normally, the kit itself provides all the Rh you need as long you don't use a terrarium too big. Even if you provide a good scale terrarium, the humidity still evaporates as time goes by till it's spent. So, water is essential as a needed substance for the substrate to keep alive and as parameter in terms of Rh to make the casing fruit.
Make sure you use distilled water or tap water with a bit of h2o2, just to be cautious

Yes!

Success!

Once again I thank you for sound and solid advice.
Re-moistined. Kept in the one place (top of fridge)and not shifted from fridge to sun-beam. Opened not once but three times a day for a breather.

AND THEY'RE COMING UP!!

14 or so. Healthy and with the promise of more too come!

I'd say I'll be pleasantly stoned by next week!
