so added a little more water to the mixture of BRF and verm. But THIS time i have these black spots. i've read that if they smell strange than discard them immediately but also i've read that if they're bad they could be harmful to the lungs.... so i dont wanna be sniffing around some kinda potential lung poison spores. anyway, the pretty pictures:

No need to smell; those are toast. PC/steam to kill the mold; then open and discard directly into trash.

How/why?
Theoretically, you could get a piece of mycelium from as far away from the contaminant as possible, and grow it on an agar plate after a dunk in H202. Don't do that.

Yeah but why? OP didn't make it sound like he was desperate for mycelium.
Don't bother trying to save those jars. If you're going to reuse the jar steam it for a while to kill any mold. An aspergillis lung infection is no joke. I know plenty of people just open and dump but why risk it?
I doubt this was caused by water content. More likely it's your sterilization. How long did you steam your jars?
Man, why does everyone feel the need to change recipe's be that have been tried and true for decades?

Hate to mention it, but a PC really changes the game man. Personally never had much success till I got a PC.

I onlymhad one pf jar contaminate out of like 70 or 80 that I did when starting. All steam sterilized. Time is the key. I would steam for 2 hours and then say to myself 'hmmm.. and extra 15 minutes wouldn't hurt' and steam for another 15.
Going that extra mile always seems to pay off in this hobby.

Due to the increased pressure, water boils at a higher temperature; thus the temperature gets well over 220. The advantages are it sterilizes the crap out of whatever you put in it, and also it takes less time to sterilize things due to the high temps.
