 First pins of my first grow.

Six cakes on the left are Penis Envy, and they are only growing little blobs. The three on the right are Golden teacher.
I found out a little late Penis Envy doesn't like to grow on cakes, any tips will be appreciated.

I tried twice to fruit PE PF cakes in a SGFC....tried.
Wish i would have crumbled them to bulk.

I usually take them out before misting. They don't seem to helpful or I am using them wrong.

Possibly try invitro next time by using a small ziplock bag over the open jar to fruit Ill let you know how mine turns out

Slow down, man. Let it all grow out. After the PE blobs come in a little more, harvest them
and dunk n' roll. My monos used to always have nasty blobs on the first flush. Second flush
was always better.

So blobs on PE is a good sign, or at least normal. I'll keep it the same for now then and see how the 2nd flush does.

Yeah remember that in grows like this, humidity means very little, it's all about striking that fine balance of keeping the cakes moist whike still allowing time for said moisture to evaporate. Surface conditions are everything.

I mist/fan at least every 3-6 hours. I was having a problem with my cakes drying out the other day. I put them on plastic lids with damp vermiculite and upped my misting. Also making sure my pearlite feels wet.

You should really remove those lids and use foil cut to the size of your cakes. At least until you have a pinset started to bottom feed as the lids are blocking the air to your cakes which promote evaporation, which in turn initiates pinning.
Once you have a good pinset started you are going to want to bottom feed those suckers to ensure max growth. I use foil to make a dish to hold the water, but your lids should work fine once there are solid pins forming, not before.
Also your cakes look a little dry IMO.
They should be glistening...

Thanks for the advice it does help. The first couple days I was clearly not misting enough. Now they seem to be glistening everytime I look at them.

The lump on one of these penis envy cakes doubled in size overnight, the others haven't noticeably grown.
