How to grow mushrooms over a long period of time?

Hello. Lets say I get a spore syringe and start a PF cake (for example) for the first time ever. After a while the mushrooms are mature enough, you pick them and start a new flush. I know that after few times all the food is finished and you throw away the cake. How can you continue to grow over and over again from that point? I mean you can take a spore print, make a syringe out of it and start all over again, but isnt there any other and better way? can you break the cake with the mycelium to another sterile and food rich cake? what to do?
(maybe with a different growing method?

2.and what to do if you want to take a break in between. I guess you take a spore print and store it in the refrigerator . for how long can it stored there?

Spore prints can be stored at room temperature for years and years.

The better method than using spores every time would be having cultures ready to use on agar

spores keep for years

the pf cake flushes until the nutrition is used up if the conditions for fruiting are adequate

you would then make more cakes and inoculate with a spore syringe

people normally move onto spawning to bulk substrates with grains after they get a succesful pf tek grow

the process for pf tek typically goes spores>cakes

the process for bulk typically goes spores>agar>agar>grains>bulk substrate

Of course. You obviously just need to use a grain jar lid then skip the dry verm barrier tho.
