Fine grain verm????
    #2505495 - 04/01/04 11:53 AM (19 years, 11 months ago)

I have been buying my verm at Lowes. It has been a medium grain. Now all they have is a fine grain.

How well will it work.

Has anyone else used this before.

I hope it will. That is the only place I have been able to find verm.

seen others say it works fairly well.
one of my friends uses it at current, his do fine i think
the main thing to worry about is the airy substrate mushrooms need, just make sure not to let it pack itself inside the jar, or it'll hinder growth.

all in all, no worries, it'll work.
also, uline.com is a wonderful site for vermiculite. its sold as 'padding' for shipping boxes, esp. for liquids. if all else fails, you might try them, certainly one order of 2 boxes (1.75 cu. ft.) will be enough for your purposes. my dog has yet to finish off even one box yet.

hope this helps, cya around, and have a good one.

Thanks for the advice. I always mix my substrate a little dry. I believe that it will collonize faster with a looser substrate. Since the dunk and roll came out The cakes dont need to hold all the moisture needed for the mushroom, just enuf to let the mycelium collinize the jar. Dunking will rehydrate the cake for fruiting.
