What's this color?

I know that when the shrooms start to drop spores there is a purple color that appears where they drop, but I often get this on top of the caps, where no spores are dropping.....what's the color from?

Yes, that is just spore deposits
sticking to the sticky cap.
Spores are very light, and float
up and down in gentle breezes, so
it isnt hard for them to get onto
the cap they droped out of.

not to mention that sometimes you get weird, and quite interesting spore designs as the mushroom cap grows and expands.

heres an example of a picture my dog drew for me, i wish i had his talent with cgi.

if you look closely, theres an almost omega symbol on top of one, and a face in the other...
or i could just be too imaginative.
in any case, its all good, enjoy the beauty of what you've done.

Yea, it's weird, there are so many more spores on the top than underneath, and in the fruiting chamber there is no breez, how the heck did so many stick to the top of that cap, but not underneath?

if you use a pmp, the bubbling action of course, makes the air always rise.
not to mention, heat always rises as well. not to mention, that unless its a perfectly sealed container, there'll always be air coming and going, just in amounts you cant feel or notice. but definately enough for a spore, which has a weight hard for me to even comprehend, floating about. also the cap is usually more sticky than the stipe. more fluid, higher water content i suppose.

by underneath, do you mean the stem/stipe?
my dogs seen plenty that've had that, depends on the angle, age, and overall spore producing capabilities of some mushrooms.

edit: noted you dont have a pmp, just perlite, which i assume you fan...and there ya go, spores galore airborne, even in your lungs as you do it =)

have a good one, and as always, hope i helped, and if i did, always glad to do so. =)
