Seperation of Church and State
    #2480868 - 03/29/04 05:27 PM (20 years, 4 days ago)

I'm trying to get a feel for what people think about seperation of church and state. I'm kinda leaning towards the idea that church should be seperate especially since there are so many religions today. I think it should be kept quite like porn it should be hidden away not plastered on tv. Well maybe porn shouldn't be hidden but you get the idea. As for state I don't think it should exsist at all. Anyway That's all I wanna say right now just so you can kinda get what I'm looking for. I need pro's and Con's I need anything you can think. Emotions are good but Well thought out ideas are better. Come on People lets post away!!!!! :gd_icon: :stash:   :bong: :mushroom2:

The State is whatever organization of humans in a society happen to have. So good luck with that!

And are you saying that freedom of speech shouldn't be granted to religious organizations?

Well I think they should be separated in order to prevent abuses, such as that seen with the Church of England and the Catholic Church in that bad 'ol days. But there should also be no discrimitory laws made against any church. In other words, pretty much what is outlined in the First Amendment.

I know I didn't want other's views imposed on me when I was in school and that includes Christianity. I don't mind church as long as it is private and I don't have to hear about it. Before mushrooms I believed that science had an answer for everything and I didn't believe in a God. I would feel really uncomfortable when we would discuss religion and or God because I felt like an outcast that was evil in the eyes of others. I'm sure people of different religions have felt the same way at one time or another - that the views of others are being imposed on them.

In my neighboring county, they are teaching creationism in science class.

>are you saying that freedom of speech shouldn't be granted to religious organizations?
-The point behind church and state is to avoid official religion... this is good because the government doesn't collect taxes from the people and distribute them to religious organizations. In return, the church has a cushy tax-exempt status. Now, there are religious organizations that want there "truth" put into school books. This can only lead to trouble.

Right - I was referring to this statement:
" I think it should be kept quite like porn it should be hidden away not plastered on tv. "
Unless he just chose his words poorly.

I think they should be seperated but i think that state needs to take some notes on church. Not because state needs church, but because they need morals. State has become numb to the feelings of its people. Like with the patriot act and such.

Also i believes state should let us get spiritual with shrooms, LSD, Payote, etc. As long as we arent harming others why should they be able to say what we do to ourselves.
